Brace-Face
"Can I look yet?" asked Twister impatiently. "In about three minutes," said Dr. Freese. After the three minutes had slowly passed by, Dr. Freese said, "Okay Twister, here you go," as he handed Twister the mirror. Twister grinned, and looked at his new braces. "Shiny! They're awesome, Dr. Freese! Awesome!" Twister said happily. He couldn't wait to show Otto, Reggie, and Sam.
As soon as Twister got home, he went up to his room and made sure his braces were still there. Suddenly he thought, Oh man, what if the guys think they're lame? He worried about it so much. I just won't smile, he thought to himself. "Well, you still look cool," he said to himself as he looked in the mirror. He grabbed his skateboard and gear, and ran downstairs out the door.
He stopped by the Shack and met Otto, Reg, and Sam. "Hey Twist, where have you been all day?" Otto asked. "No where," Twist said without smiling. Reggie looked at him sort of funny and asked, "Why are you talking like that?" Twister panicked, "No reason." He sat on the stools beside them. He decided to change the subject, "So, today's my day to buy everyone a Shack shake?" he asked. They all nodded. "Okay Raymundo, the regular. Chocolate for Sam, strawberry for Otto, peach for Reg, and a vanilla for me," he told Ray. He handed Ray the money for the shakes, and Tito passed out the shakes to everybody. "Thanks Twist," everyone said. They all slurped on their shakes, while Twist was putting a straw in his. He sipped some of the shake into the straw, and as soon as the cold ice cream had hit his teeth, he let out a yelp. "Owwwww!" he screamed. Getting his braces today had made his gums and teeth sore, and the frozen shake wasn't helping.
"What happened Twist?" asked Otto. Twister shook his hands, "Just cold, that's all," he replied. As Sam walked over to one of the tables to get some napkins to clean up some shake that had dripped on the floor, he slipped on a slippery spot, and fell. Twister smiled really big, and started to giggle. As he was laughing, he realized his mistake. All of his friends were staring at him. "What?" he asked. "What's on your teeth, dude?" Otto asked. "Nothin,'" Twist replied. Otto walked towards him. He grabbed Twist and put him in a head lock, and pried his mouth open. "Braces! I shoulda known!" Otto said. Twist struggled, trying to get away from his grip. "Will woo wet go of my wips wow?" Twist mumbled. Otto let go of his lips and helped Twist back up.
"Why were you afraid to show us?" Reggie asked. "I thought you guys would think I'm a dork," Twist explained. "Oh, come on Twist. Why would we think you're a dork?" Otto asked. "I dunno," Twist replied. "Well, we think it's awesome Twist. There's nothing wrong with having braces. How long do you have to have them on, anyway?" Sam asked. "Three years," Twister interpreted, "so I'll be 14 when I get them taken off." Twister was happy his friends didn't make fun of him. True friends aren't superficial.
