Pilgrim 921 had never been more confused. He'd been gone for days, and still she thought of him. Night after night, she would lie awake in her bunk, unable to stop thinking about him.

Vykk Draygo...curse the man! Pilgrim 921 just couldn't rid him from her mind...or that lopsided smile of his she so secretly loved (even if she wouldn't admitit to herself). He made her feel... alive, something she hadn't felt much of lately.

But Vykk was not what she wanted...not at all. Pilgrim 921 had come to Ylesia to be a part of the One and the All forever. It was where she belonged. Her life consisted of working in the glitterstim mines, andworshipping the One and All during the nightly Exultation. Vykk wasn't a part of that- and he never would be. He was too much of an unbeliever.

Besides... she didn't even like him, did she? Pilgrim 921 sighed. She was lying to herself, and she knew it. Somehow, Vykk had wormed his way into her thoughts...and maybe more? His caring had made her start to question her vows...

With the exception of the Exultation, when had Pilgrim 921 ever felt cared about on Ylesia? Until Vykk, she couldn't name a time. From that very first day they met in the refectory, when he wouldn't go away. He'd been concerned about her before he even knew her, becoming worried after watching a strand of glitterstim cause a deep gash between her thumb and forefinger. No one else had cared. The supervisors were only concerned with spice production. They warned the pilgrims not to get blood on the work station, and to be cautious of not letting the phosphorescent fungus spread, or they'd miss evening devotions.

Vykk however was different... he backed off when she told him she'd be fine, but he still sought her out. He found her in the mess hall, eating alone. Gently he had examined her hand, and asked about her health. In the evenings, Vykk walked her to and from devotions, which helped a lot, because she was often very weak after the Exultation. All in all, he showed he cared.

Still... she was doing the universe good by believing and having faith. On Ylesia, and not with Vykk was were she belonged, right?

Somehow, it all was beginning to feel wrong. Vykk was making her rethink her vows and loyalties. She needed to decide what was right... and only time would tell which she would ultimately choose.
