Disclaimer: I don't own Avengers. Obviously.

This scene takes place right before the whole eye stealing thing in Germany...

"Sir, I don't know how I feel about this plan," Clint said. They were preparing to go after the iridium and Loki had revealed his intentions to allow himself to be captured. "Director Fury is not known for being gentle with hostile prisoners."

"Well, I don't plan on being particularly hostile." Loki smirked. "I'll be cooperative. Somewhat."

"And I don't think unleashing the Hulk in an airship that you're on could possibly go well," Clint added.

"I trust you," Loki said. "You've been...helpful so far."

There was a part of Clint that was repulsed by the fact that Loki approved of him, but that part wasn't in control. The part that was in control, the part that the tesseract controlled, was glad. He felt important. He was part of something greater than himself, greater than SHIELD.

"You know the ship," Loki continued. "You know its weaknesses. You can get the men on it and disable it at least long enough to provide a distraction."

Clint frowned. "So you don't actually have a plan beyond 'get captured by SHIELD'."

Loki looked confused. "I have a plan." He thought he'd made himself clear. "You're my plan."

No pressure, Clint thought. "One more thing. What if more of them show up in Germany than you think?"

"Do you think more than a few agents and one or two of the...special ones will be able to respond in time?" Loki asked.

"No..."

"Then I have nothing to fear." Loki clamped a hand on Clint's shoulder. "Take heart, my friend. Soon the world will be a better place for all of us."

In the back of his mind, the part where the real Hawkeye was, he knew it wouldn't really be a better world. It would be a dead world. But the tesseract part of Clint was exhilarated. Loki would reign supreme. All because of him.
