Storyline

Reno loves Abbie, but how does she feel about him?

Before You Read

I was rewatching episode 44 of Astro Boy and I kinda realized that Abbie doesn't seem all that interested in Reno. No, seriously! He's all tripping over himself (well, he actually handles his first crush real well!) and all, and she's just like, "Oh. Hi. Um, what's up?"

Anyways, it's just a little what if Abbie rejected Reno if he [ever] asked her out.

He paused at her door. He took a deep breath in and rang the doorbell, patiently waiting for Abbie to open the door. As usual, Reno was wearing his everyday outfit. He didn't know too much about girls since he was raised in the robot circus, but he had a pretty good idea of how to impress Abbie.

He beamed as it was, of course, Abbie who answered the door. "Oh, hi, Reno," she said quietly. "How's your day?"

Reno blushed. "It's been going good," he replied shyly. "You?"

Abbie nodded in agreement, which Reno took as she was having an okay day, too. he took a deep breath and blushed slightly. "Em, uh, d-do you, uh... do you, uh..." he stammered. This was a lot harder then it looked. He seen people do it on tv all the time, and this never happened. "D-do you wanna hang out...later. You know, somewhere...uh, oh, I dunno. Anywhere is good."

Abbie stared at him. "Are you asking me on a date?" she blurted suddenly.

He hadn't really been expecting her to find out so soon, but now that she knew, it couldn't've been so hard to ask now, would it? "N-no, no, no. J-just as friends, you know?"

"Right," she muttered disapprovingly. "Just as friends."

She sighed before looking around inside. "Um, geez, Reno," she said. "I don't think I can. I mean, I have stuff to do. You know, being a Princess and all..."

Reno half glanced down, looking like a kicked puppy. "Y-you don't wanna go out with me?" he whimpered hopelessly.

Abbie had no clue how to respond to that, since he had just rejected the thought of going out with her, but dismissed it as that's how boys in America (Japan?) think or something. She slowly shook her head. Reno's eyes dropped.

"Ah, I'll just being heading now," he whispered before turning and waddling off the property, whistling random tunes. Abbie watched him with a lot of confusion before closing the door and returning to her room.

Reno smacked his face, holding back a wave of [some rare] emotions overcame him; rejection, sadness, a small sight of relief, and embaressment. "Nice," he muttered to himself. "That went smooth."

He sighed. Maybe Hannah would wanna hang out...

After Notes

I know, I'm a big Reno X Abbie fan, but you know, Abbie doesn't seem all that interested in Reno. I think something happened in episode 44, though, where it might've shown Reno and Abbie having a moment or something that was cut out, because you don't see Reno in his bed when Howie comes to wake Astro.

Yes, I did just say Reno is missing in a scene. He's not in his fricking bed. I don't know why, but I think Reno was with Abbie in a (possibly cute) scene that had been removed from the english dub. That is just a thought. If anyone has seen the unedited version of episode 44 (aka, Japanese Sub), let me know if I'm right or not. Because I really think Reno is with Abbie sometimes during Episode 44 in a deleted scene.

Anyways, I do think Abbie isn't all that interested in Reno because she has never acted unusual in anyway like Reno, but, then again, girls are way more mature then boys. Maybe Reno has a crush on her and Abbie doesn't. You know, stuff like that happens in real life!
