Title: I promise

Author's Notes: It's been a very long while but here I am.

Buffy didn't mean to eavesdrop but Faith was in there with him.

"I'm sorry…"

She leaned against the wall; the door to Faith's room on her right, open and simply inviting anyone who passed by to look in or listen in.

"It's me…I mean there's something wrong with me…" Buffy made a face and translated what he said to 'My family doesn't like you and my ex-girlfriend hates your guts.'

"…what we had was special, Faith but I think it's time for us to move on…" 'You were a great lay but my ex-girlfriend convinced me to break up with you by giving me a blowjob.'

"But you said…" Faith's sounded so hurt, so crushed and Buffy…

'I will never lie to you Faith, I will never hurt you. Not like that bastard!'

"I'm sorry, babe."

There was a moment of silence then Faith was a blur of speed (hurt, betrayal and a broken heart) as she ran down the stairs and slammed the door on her way out.

The house shook from force and Buffy seethed in anger at him (and for Faith).

Buffy wondered what Faith saw in him.

"Oh, hey Buffy!" He smiled as if nothing happened. 'Is that how much she means to you?'

"Hey."

He looked so ordinary (plain, bland, boring, dull) and normal. 'What did she see in you? Why you? Why can't it be me?'

"How long have you been out there?"

"Enough to hear everything."

"Oh…" He looked guilty (for two seconds). "Look, I'm so-"

He'll probably be eating through a straw for the rest of his miserable life. 'You deserve it.'

Everything in this moment looked is perfectly cliché; the heavy rain, the park (by the pond where Faith met him) and two slayers, one love scorned and other pining for the scorned. 'This is perfect for us.'

Buffy's heart clench with every sob she heard. 'She will never shed a tear with me.'

She wrapped her arms around Faith, pulled the broken hearted slayer into her arms and buried her face into that (soft) wet hair that smelled so much of honey (rain and tears).

Faith leaned into her, asking strength and solace. 'I can give you my love and more.'

When the sobs turned to light sniffles and quivering shoulders Buffy's hand wiped away the tears and rain, she looked into Faith's eyes.

"I love you."

"No you don't."

"I love you." 'I do…so much.'

Her jaw would be sore in a few hours but it didn't matter.

"I love you."

"Don't lie to me!"

"I love you." 'You know I'm a bad liar.'

"Please, don't."

"I love you, I love you, I love you; I'll say it as many times as you want me to. I'll never lie to you. I'll never leave you. I'll never hurt you. I'll never let you go." 'I promise. I promise.'

"Stop please…"

"I won't."
