Musing in the Shower

12:16 A.M.

As the warm water travels down my naked body,
I am reminded of his presence,
the way his touch used to mark its territory
upon my most guarded areas.

Unguarded I was-
to have granted him permission to enter me,
to have believed that the roses he gave me
were still red in the darkness of my bedroom.

Yet, I tried to wash away the doubt,
tried to understand that hidden behind
the steaming shower glass were lucid panes.
The other side of him eventually became clear.

The pain and confusion came in
abundance, much like the incessant streams of
water against my bare body.
He had stolen too much from me.

He had become insignificant to me
like each bead of dirty water beneath my toes.
Yet, I cannot bring my feet to crush them-
they join, grow, and eventually surround my numb knees.

One clockwise turn of the handle cannot
counterclockwise turn time.
The water stops and the panes become clear.
I can see the other side.

A/N: This was one of the poems I wrote for a poetry class. I had a sudden urge to write this after seeing the Third Birthday trailer. There have been suspicions that Kyle may have turned against Aya, and I wanted to reflect the (unconfirmed) tension between them here. I used the underlying subject of shower because it is often a symbol of washing away impurities, grief, etc in addition to the fact that Aya had her own shower scene in PE 2. =D I also decided to throw the idea of time into this poem to state that no matter how much we want to go back to the past to change our ways, we simply cannot and must move forward. I hope this was an enjoyable read. Although this poem does not need to relate to PE, I intended it to be when I wrote it. Thanks for reading and please leave your thoughts/comments in a review. Thanks again!
