A/N Yay, the first chapter of my new story! If you've read my other fanfic, you'll probably have read a slightly less platonic version of this chapter and one or two more chapters after it, but this story is solely solangelo now, and the other one is solely percico because I've split them by request. But here it is, the first chapter, enjoy and please review.
Percy POV
Upon realising that all the children of the big three are pretty lonely when our only living sibling isn't visiting, Chiron finally decided to let us sit with each other. Jason, having already eaten, isn't here, so it's just Nico and I eating our food together.
"So, there's a capture the flag tonight." I say to make conversation.
"Yeah," he replies, "d'you wanna team up?"
"Okay, sounds g-" I try to say, but i falter when i see Jason running up the cracked steps to the mess hall.
He runs in with astonishment in his eyes, "There's been another prophecy!" He says. We all run to the big house to hear it.
As soon as we reach the big house, Chiron reads from a scrap of paper with the prophecy scribbled on it:
"Four shall go south
With life and love at stake
A liar in the midst
For the stars to take."
"For the stars to take?" I ask, "Could that be something to do with Ouranos?"
"Actually," Chiron says, "I think it's a metaphor, though I can't imagine what for."
All the cabin leaders are there: me, Nico, Jason, Piper, Will, Annabeth, and all the rest.
"What's the prophecy for, even?" Jason asks, "the world isn't ending, neither is the camp, what do we need?"
"It could be something small, just as easily as it could be something big." The Annabeth says.
"Yeah, for instance, it could be a quest to get a new kind of medicine?" says Will.
"Or a way to build a new weapon." Clarisse says.
"I dot think 'stars' is a metaphor for weapon blueprints, Clarisse." I say, leaning against the wall.
"The real question is: who are the four going to be?" says Nico.
"Well, seeing as the four of you made such a good team in the summer, maybe we should have Will, Nico, Cecil and Lou-Ellen to go on the quest?" Chiron suggests. Everyone agrees.
As we're leaving, I mumble to Nico, "first time I've been at camp and not had to go on a quest." And to be honest, I'm kind of glad about it. I'm tired of risking my life.
We then go to Nico's cabin to help him pack a bag for the quest, as they'll be leaving as soon as possible.
He packs some clothes while I sit on his bed, examining the Hades figurine which I didn't realise he'd kept, the one Bianca died to get for him. I try to ask him about it, but he snatches it out of my hand, stuffs it in his rucksack and changes the subject.
When he's done packing, he sits down next to me and gives me a very platonic goodbye hug.
It's not long until he pulls away, saying he has to meet the others to leave. As he approaches the door, I tell him to stop, "Nico be careful, the prophecy said there'd be a liar in the midst. Just... don't trust anyone when your life's at stake, okay?"
"Percy, it's only a minor quest, I'll be alright." He allows me to ruffle his hair for the last time before leaving, "besides, the liar could be me?" he smiles and walks out the door, leaving me sitting on the bed, already anxious about his safety. And of course, what Nico has left to lie about.
