Hey guys! This is only my second story, so please tell me if I need to work on something! Let me know if you like it (review) :)
Nico
"Another quest?! We just finished a war! Are you kidding?" I yell, not meaning to be rude, but thoroughly exasperated. I sit in a chair across from Chiron, who is sitting in his wheelchair with fake human legs hanging out of the front. We are in the Big House, where Chiron has just received a call from his friend, some old dude called Albus Dumbledore. Chiron tells me he needs me to go on a quest for this man, apparently it's pretty important.
"Yes Nico, I'm afraid so. You'll have to pick one other person to go on this quest with you." Chiron says sadly. I can tell he really does not want to issue another quest, especially to one of us big three kids.
"Ok, ok fine. I can do this." I pause for a second, thinking. "Wait, why not two other people? Quests usually have three."
"I realize that, Nico, but for this quest we will have to be as undercover as possible. Go choose your partner and we will discuss what you must do when you get back."
I recognize the dismissal at this point, and leave the Big House immediately. It's a normal, late August day, bright sunlight and warm breezes wafting across the camp. Percy's birthday had passed a week ago, and it was pretty awkward. I don't think he'll ever get over the whole 'I'm not your type' issue. After waving to a few of Will's brothers, I push open the door to my cabin, which Will had lightened up a bit.
Only one person.
So I could either pick my best friend, Summer, (who prefers to be called Newt, for reasons unknown by me) or my boyfriend Will. He will be immensely helpful if I get hurt, but if Newt were with me, I most likely won't get injured anyway. I decide to go with Newt. She's not a great healer, but she's a mean fighter, even though she's a bit new to camp. I stuff a few pairs of clothes, my toothbrush, some knives and a baggie of ambrosia into my black bag, then sling it over my shoulder and double check that I have everything I might need. My sword is hung around my waist, so that isn't a problem. Still, I feel like I'm missing something….
Oh well. I shrug and head toward Newt's cabin.
The Poseidon cabin.
I knock on the door hesitantly, and three seconds later it whips open. Percy leans seductively against it, runs a hand through his hair and says:
"Hey, Nico." in an overly dramatic voice. I roll my eyes.
"Hi Percy. Is Newt here?" I ask, trying to be patient with him.
"Er, no. But aren't you happy to see me?" Percy gives me his sad puppy dog face. I resist the urge to smack him.
"Do you know where she is? It's kind of important." I tell him angrily. He sighs and resumes his normal composure.
"She was heading toward the beach with Valdez and Calypso, last I saw her." Percy says. I thank him and take off toward the ocean. It's going to be a bummer to have to deal with Leo, who is going to tease me about Will and the 'I'm not your type' deal, but I'll do it. I reach the beach just in time to see Newt blast Leo up and out of the water towards the shore. They are out pretty far, but I'm sure there's a sandbar. Leo splashes out of the water toward me. I brace myself, but all he does is stumble past drunkenly. His body is all red, and it looks quite painful, to be honest. I watch him go. As soon as the girls get on shore, Calypso waves goodbye to Newt and runs after Leo. Newt comes up to me.
"Hey." She says, willing herself dry.
"Hi. Chiron wants us for a quest. He told me to tell you that we're leaving early tomorrow. He said to pack up now, and then come to the big house for instructions."
"Okay, cool! I can't wait. Just you and me on an awesome adventure across the world." She smiles at me. I can't help but smile back. Her enthusiasm about the whole thing is amusing.
"See you in 15 minutes." I tell her, and she bounces off to her cabin to pack. I trudge on towards the Big House, fearful of what awaits in the day ahead.
When I arrive, Chiron is there, waiting patiently where I left him.
"Ah Nico! Who have you chosen to accompany you on the quest?"
"Newt. I thought that I probably won't get hurt with her there."
"No, likely not. She's a good choice…" Chiron finishes, just as Newt pushes the door open. She has her black messenger bag slung over her shoulder, and it looks like it's about to overflow.
"Hey," she says, her voice bursting with excitement. Chiron smiles at her.
"Has Nico told you anything about the quest?" Chiron asks her, once she gets settled on the chair next to mine.
"Just that we're leaving early tomorrow." She replies.
"Okay, good. An old friend of mine contacted me today, saying that he needed reinforcements for the upcoming war. Now, these are not normal people, they are wizards. I am quite sure, Nico, that you have met a few in the Underworld." Chiron tells us. I nod; I do know of a few wizards, I just never thought much of it.
"Well, these wizards have their own world, and right now it is in grave danger. A strong, evil wizard is gaining power quickly, and there is only one person who can stop him: Harry Potter. I cannot stress this enough. You must help Harry. Do not, under any circumstances, kill the evil wizard." Chiron continues.
"What's the wizard's name?" asks Newt.
"I'd rather not speak it until the end, as you'll find it funny. Now, for your quest, you will have to go to school." Chiron says, as Newt and I simultaneously groan. He puts out his hands to quiet us down.
"It is not normal school, it's wizarding school. You'll have fun."
"So… what's the wizard's name?" I ask.
"And the school name." Newt reminds him, smirking.
Chiron sighs and tells us. In a few moments we're rolling around on the floor, and I can fully understand why he didn't tell us earlier.
In the morning, after all the questions are answered, I grab Newt's hand and we shadow travel to King's Cross train station in England.
