This is just a little "one shot", I guess. It's a short little story involving Lin, Toph, and a little bit of Katara.
Toph came home the next morning after working a long 12 hour shift over night.
"Mom!" Lin exclaimed, "You're finally home!"
"It's good to be home." Toph sighed.
Katara came walking out from the kitchen to greet Toph.
"So, how was your shift?" Katara asked.
"Ugh." Toph grunted, "I just can't wait to go to bed."
Katara chuckled, "Lin was very eager to go home."
"Did she behave?" Toph asked.
"Yeah, she was fine. She had fun playing with Tenzin." Katara said.
"That's good." Toph said, "But thanks for watching her, Katara."
"Any time!" Katara said with a smile.
"Come on, Lin. We're going to head home." Toph said.
"Wait, mommy!" The nine year old said, "I gotta get my stuff."
"Okay. I'll be waiting here." Toph said.
"So, did you solve this Yakone case yet?" Katara asked, after she was sure Lin was off into the other room.
"Not quite." Toph said, "But, we get closer and closer to solving this mess every day."
"Well, at least there's progress being made." Katara said.
"Yeah..." Toph sighed in agreement.
"Okay, I'm ready mom!" Lin said after running back to her mother.
"Alright, let's go kiddo." Toph said, "See ya later, Katara."
"Bye!" Katara said waving.
"Mommy wait," Lin said, "Before you go to bed can I ask you something?"
"Go ahead." Toph said, yawning.
"What happened to my dad?" Lin asked.
"Lin!" Toph scolded, "You know not to ask of him!"
"I'm sorry." Lin said.
"I'm going to bed." Toph said, "Good night, Lin. Remember to wake me up around 4 o'clock. I work another 12 hours tonight."
