Summary:A few years after the end of Destiny, Athrun writes his final goodbye to Cagalli
Cagalli,
We once promised each other that we would paint the night sky with stars. It was a promise that was meant to keep us together forever, and it hurts me to break it –but you and I both know that there's no point in trying to keep it anymore.
We never thought this day would come, did we? We were both so hopeful about the future, our future; your head on my shoulder, we daydreamed of everlasting happiness and peace. We never stopped to think that things might not work out, that our dreams would be harder to attain than we thought them to be. We clung to each other.
In hindsight, I think the reason we held onto each other so desperately was that we were scared. Scared of our pasts and what we had lost, scared that alone we would be unable to accomplish anything…And, in part, I think that we were right to do so.
But that time has passed and we both have to start moving forward, alone. We're adults now; we have to accept that fact –even if we're not quite ready to. We must learn to paint the stars alone.
Cagalli, I want you to be happy. Cherish the memories and live strong no matter what.
