INFECTION

"Emily, we can't be together anymore." Sheldon Schlepper told his girlfriend as they were walking from school towards Emily's house.

Emily stopped in her tracks. "What? Why?"

"You make me sick." Sheldon said simply.

"Excuse me?" Emily's eyes narrowed in anger.

Realizing how Emily interpreted his statement, Sheldon quickly attempted to amend the situation.

"Not like, 'Ew, I'm disgusted by you and you want make me want to vomit' sick. But the 'I feel different than normal and I think I'm getting ill' sick."

Emily raised an eyebrow. "Care to elaborate?"

Sheldon sighed and tried to verbalize his feelings. "It's strange. It's like…when I think of you, my pulse and heart rate increase to an abnormal rate. My blood pressure goes up, I know; I've checked. I also get these strange fluttery feelings in my stomach and I break out in a sweat all over my body. Not just my forehead, but my hands, my neck, my buttocks-"

"Sheldon!" Emily screeched and looked around the deserted street to see if anyone might have overheard.

"Was I being too explicit again?" At Emily's nod, Sheldon apologized and continued.

"It gets worse, all that is when I think of you. When I see you, it gets a hundred times worse. When we touch, even if it's just to hug or hold hands, I feel a shock. And no matter how much static guard I mix in my moisturizer, it doesn't stop it."

Looking down, Sheldon sighed dejectedly.

"I even went to see a doctor, because we have a history of cardiac and gastrointestinal problems in my family. I was concerned that these symptoms may some how be related to that. Of course, the quack of the doctor said nothing was wrong. I'm going to consult my PDR and go find a second opinion."

By this time, Emily's head was down and her shoulders were shaking uncontrollably. Sheldon bent his head down and saw tears streaming down her face.

"Oh, don't cry, Em. I don't mean to hurt you. Maybe after I figure out what is wrong with me and I get treatment-"

"Sheldon!" Emily finally managed to get out. "You're not sick. I feel it too."

"Oh my gosh! You're sick too! Well at least we can be sick together. Maybe we can be in the quarantine together. I wonder how we got it…what are some common factors between us? Who could we have caught it from? Who is patient zero?"

Sheldon stopped as he realized Emily was crying, again. Only this time he realized she was and had been crying from laughter, not sorrow.

"Emily?"

"Sheldon, we're not sick. We're in love. Those feelings, I feel them too…all the butterflies and the sparks, everything. It's natural; it's love. You're not sick."

"It's not stomach cancer?" Sheldon asked.

"It's not stomach cancer." Emily smiled.

"We didn't catch it from anyone? Derek and Casey?" Sheldon reaffirmed.

"No we didn't cat- wait. Derek and Casey?" Emily asked in confusion.

Sheldon nodded. "They are always pulling away from each other as if shocked when they get too close. Derek always sweats when he's near her or when he knows he is going to be near her. Casey is always breathless around him. Haven't you noticed?"

Emily shook her head. "No. But I know that I am going to notice now."

Sheldon grinned. "I'm not dying! We can be together! And you love me!"

Emily laughed at her boyfriend's jump back to the previous conversation and threw her arms around him. "Yes! I love you! One question though…did you really mix static guard with your moisturizer?"

Sheldon smirked and pilled Emily even closer. "You know it babe! And guess what…we're too hot for static guard!"
