Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha, but I do own this poem.
Just another idea I decided to turn into a poem. It is a little cliché-ish, but tell me what you think!
My Heart is Yours To Keep
A Poem by Imperfectly-Yours
Most wild things silent with fear
For stalking low in bushes and ferns
A dog demon silently crept near.
He grasped a thin gleaming sword
His eyes fixed patiently on something ahead
In his mind worried thoughts traveled
Could she be alive? Could she be dead?
For in the clearing farther up,
Lay a maiden with ebony hair
And skin as pale and fair as snow
But, she did not move nor open her eyes.
So why didn't this dog demon run to her,
When his eyes showed so much pain?
Was there the scent of danger in the air?
The wind tugged at his silver mane.
He crept closer to her
Doubt growing with each step he took
No longer hiding in the forest's plants
He yearned to get a closer look.
When he reached her limp body
He flung the sword aside in despair
Tears pricked his golden eyes, his body shook
For she was his only reason, his only true care.
He cried out when he saw her pale face
And felt like his heart had been torn in two.
Had he caused this? What had he done?
He numbly stroked her silky hair; it was all he could do.
Upon doing this, she began to stir
Opening her chocolate brown eyes
"Inuyasha!" she feebly cried.
"I thought you had left me to this tragic demise."
He looked at her, beaming
She was awake!
But darkness began to flood him inside
He was drowning in his own, angry lake.
"Kagome! What happened? I thought you had let go!
Was it me who had caused this?"
He felt his pain grow,
Knowing something inside her was terribly amiss.
She looked up at him wearily,
Sadness filling her eyes.
Should she tell him the truth
Or cover it up with lies?
She reached for his hand
Unable to decide what to say
She glanced up to the calm sky:
Shimmering dark blue and powdery gray.
She looked back at him
Sighing deeply as her body began to shake
She was afraid things would be different after what she said
But it was a risk, she decided, she would willingly take.
"I am here, Inuyasha, because I felt
Tonight would be my last fall.
It's been months and months that I've cried every night
That I've struggled under it all."
He looked at her, puzzled.
"Kagome, I have dishonored myself by hurting you,
I have not meant to harm you in anyway."
But deep inside, the anger at himself grew.
He pulled her into a tight embrace,
But then felt her pull away.
Frustration filled his heart
What else did he need to do or say?
And then he thought:
Was it his dying passion with Kikyo that made her cry?
Was it his cold comments and their arguments?
What had made her want to die?
"Inuyasha, can't you see?
My feelings for you have not changed since that day long ago
When I freed you from that tree!
I don't know how else to put it."
She continued, looking away from him in shame.
"Inuyasha…if you cannot understand…
What I mean to say is…I love you!
And how you feel towards me in return, is what I demand."
He looked at her in shock
Her eyes now meeting his own
Delicate tears shimmered on her cheeks
She had made her feelings known!
But, would he in return, hide from his true feelings again?
He decided to take the leap.
And then he looked at her and said,
"My heart is yours to keep."
Joy danced in Kagome's eyes
Her lips curving into a smile from her sudden bliss
This was a memory she would not easily forget
And so, she lifted her head, and gave him a kiss…
The End
