Sigh. I would very much enjoy owning this, but unfortunately I've got jack-all.

Miyano Shiho was used to feeling alone. Apart from her sister there had never been anyone else and she'd been just fine with that.

And suddenly Akemi was gone and it hurt more than anything she could have imagined.

When she then found herself changed she had wondered for a while if it was really worth it. Would it be so terrible to just give up? She was so very tired, after all.

At first precious little had tied her to the life of Haibara Ai, but slowly she'd settled into it. Made friends, become very fond of her guardian.

And him. At first she'd told her self that what she felt for him was admiration. And he was an impressive person. She'd never known anyone quite as smart as herself, but he was every bit as intelligent as she was.

But more impressive than his considerable intelligence was his strength. She couldn't conceive of how he'd stayed sane for so long, virtually alone with his pain. She knew it wasn't easy to live as they did, in fact without him there she didn't think she would be able to do it. But his situation was worse. Miyano Shiho had nothing to go back to and so Haibara Ai had it fairly easy. Kudou Shinichi had a life. Parents, friends and someone he loved that he had to watch missing him every day. Edogawa Conan rarely showed any of the pain he had to have inside.

And watching him she began to realise that she cared. Her heart gave a little twinge when she caught the sorrow in his eyes that he usually kept hidden. She felt warm and safe when she remembered his promise to protect her or when she remembered that day they'd first met, when he'd let her cry on his shoulder as she finally let out the grief from losing her sister. When they talked freely, discussing intellectual concepts they could only talk to each other or Hakase about, she felt like nothing was wrong, that they weren't in a horrible situation with the fate of certain death should they be discovered.

When she began to realise these feelings she'd told herself that it was a crush. A silly, irrational crush borne of loneliness and the companionship he offered. Though she never called him anything but 'Edogawa-kun' or 'Kudou-kun' in private, he became 'Shinichi' in her head. She even teased him, insinuated that she wished they could stay as they were, so they could be together. But that wasn't true; she didn't feel that for him.

And eventually she had to face up to the truth. It felt like she was betraying Akemi but there was nothing for it.

Miyano Shiho loved her little brother, Kudou Shinichi.

AN: I'm a big fan of Ai/Shiho and I think the dynamic between her and Conan/Shinichi is really interesting. Given their situation I think they must be quite important to each other, they must feel a bond. So, I drabbled.
