Yes, I realized belatedly that I must have read the challenge email at 4 in the morning and made a mistake… but anyway….

Dean never realized just how much he wanted this until now. Never thought it was even a possibility.
But now, in this small hospital, his hunting days were a lifetime away.
He turned. In the doorway, Sam grinned widely and held a thumb up in encouragement.
Dean smiled at his brother, happier than he could ever remember, and turned back to take the bundle in his arms.
"Hey, baby," he murmured to the tiny girl, "happy birthday…"
"Dean… you up?"
He opened his eyes, startled.
"You alright," Sam asked.
Dean sighed, rubbing his eyes.
"Fine," he said tiredly, "Just fine."

A/n: When I watched the latest episode, I couldn't help but think that perhaps what Dean hungers for is something he's never even considered. As hunters, they're always sort of living job to job, crisis to crisis. Maybe this is what Dean's hungry for: a real life… beyond destiny, being in the business of life and not death for a while.
