Silence is Green
"Humans have a saying that silence is golden. But we know the truth don't we? Silence is, in actual fact, green."
"..."
"I understand a human helped one of your own kind in your own universe. What was his name again? Harrison Chase? Harvey Race?"
"..."
"Whatever. All animal names sound the same anyway."
"..."
It was at this point that Dark Oak decided to give it up. "It," in this case being talking to the plant organism that according to Black Narcissus, was called a krynoid. A fellow plant, and a sentient one at that, but still a far-cry from true intelligence. He didn't know why he even bothered-this plant was a means to an end, not something that he was meant to talk to and make himself look as stupid as Yellow Zelkova.
Strange, isn't it...flora is far more universal in this galaxy than fauna...but only on Greengate did we take the place that so much fauna has risen to...
From what he'd learnt from the krynoid, it was the same for its host universe as well. There, the krynoids drifted through space as spores, colonizing other bodies once they arrived. As always, the animals on those bodies fought back and at times, the world known as Earth being a prime example, succeeded. Granted it had taken advanced technology utilized by a force known as UNIT and the aid of a time traveller called the Doctor, but nevertheless, the animals had won. Again.
And that's what truly bothers you isn't it? the metarex leader reflected bitterly. It isn't just the case in this galaxy that animals rule, but in all realities. And you only possess the means to set things to right in a measly 100-400 billion stars and the trillions more planets that orbit them.
Considering that there were hundreds of billions of other galaxies in the universe, and that figure would be multiplied infinitely if one took parallel universes into account, the eradication of all non plant life in this galaxy seemed like a drop of sand in a pond. And even if it did succeed, even if enough planet eggs were harvested and Chaos Emeralds duplicated, Dark Oak had to wonder about the worth of it all. Wonder if it had become so meaningless that he was talking to a plant that couldn't talk back. Wonder if it was the bitterness of no longer being on speaking terms with the remaining seedrians that made him want to extend outwards...to make contact with anything...
The metarex shook the feeling away. He was no longer a seedrian. He was a metarex. He'd do what those cowards refused to and bring peace to the galaxy.
And, as he recalled the situation on Cascade, maybe this krynoid could inflict some damage there as well...
A/N
If there's one thing that the Fourth Doctor story The Seeds of Doom proved, it's that the idea of hugging all-consuming weeds (not trees, weeds) and spreading silence isn't confined to the metarex. Yes, it's another similarity-based crossover. Guess the metarex tried to outdo Chase on one level. Still got nothing on the Silence though-they managed to succeed in spreading it across the entire universe.
Now all we need is an alien race that seeks to spread noise instead... 0_0
