It was a bright night, it seemed in the eyes of Asen. Vision blurred by tears that threatened to spill over. But he was a stronger man than that. He would never let anybody see his tears, not even...
"Asen..." Ale, the young agent walked over to him, wearing black clothing. He didn't pay attention to what she was wearing however. Her red hair flew behind her because of the wind, and Asen imagined fire instead of hair. Her baby blue eyes made her face seem so much younger. Without thinking he reached out for a handshake, but she ignored it, going in for a hug. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and held him tightly. Unsure of what to do, Asen put his arms around her petite body. Behind her he noticed Devyn. He knew Laurane was here as well, but because her sister was buried here, she went to her gravestone before the ceremony started.
When the girl let go, he felt his numb legs walk towards Devyn, who gave him a strong handshake. Just like him...
He didn't know how long had passed of him just standing there, but it must have been a while because the ceremony started and he was suddenly expected to speak. He walked up to the podium and stood there. His mouth was open but he couldn't speak. The pastor put a hand on his shoulder and told him to sit down again. He obeyed without a fight, sitting down next to Devyn and Laurane.
Before he knew it, it was time to say there last good byes. The coffin was empty, he knew that, but he couldn't help but envision him inside it, trapped. He stopped this thinking immediately, or else he might just run up to the coffin and try to pry it open. Sighing and trembling, he stood up with the group and was the first in front of the coffin. He didn't notice until now, but he was holding a red rose in his hand. He didn't even notice until later that the thorns had not been cut off from this rose, which he had intended when he first got it. He held the stem tightly, the thorns cutting into his hand. His hand felt sticky from the blood. As the coffin was being lowered, Asen set the blood covered rose down next to the other flowers. He knew Petter would never know it was from him, but he hoped that they would be together forever in another life, with his blood on the rose at his grave.
