"Please don't. Don't touch me!" She sobs, but the boy lying next to her refuses to let up. "I told you, don't touch me, please!"

The girl in dream now wakes up, tears streaming down her face. The memory still haunts her three years later, and it's gotten worse since she told Ryder Lynn about it. It was like reopening a wound.

Kitty isn't sure what to do. "Please, come over, Ryder. I need you," she chokes over the phone.

"I'll be right there," he mutters sleepily. She doubts he'll come.

He comes at 3:27, fifteen minutes after she calls. A rumble of thunder clashes.

He waits at her doorstep one minute until she opens it with a shaking hand. She is crying quietly.

Ryder envelopes her in his arms. "Shh, it's okay. He's not going to touch you. He won't hurt you anymore, Kitty. No one's going to hurt you. I'm here." She cries harder, and he hugs her tighter.

"Ryder, please, the flashbacks are getting so bad! I don't know what to do."

"You're safe, Kitty. You're safe here. With me."

"Can you… Can you sleep with me tonight?"

"Of course." As he follows her upstairs, rain starts to pour outside.

Kitty slides into bed, and Ryder climbs in on the other side.

"Thank you. I… I needed you. And you actually came. It's like—it's like you're the only one that understands what I go through."

"I know," he whispers through the darkness. "I know."
