Another teaser for my story Darkness is Falling. Hope you enjoy it xo
Ingrid found Vlad sitting on the floor, slumped against his coffin, head in his hands. "So you're back then," she said conversationally as if the last forty eight hours hadn't happened. When Vlad didn't answer, she stepped further into the room. "You know you really have to stop this whole disappearing thing. You can't just run off when you feel like it. You have responsibilities."
Vlad's voice was muffled but it definitely sounded like "Flap off."
Ingrid sat on the edge of the coffin and looked down at the dejected figure of her little brother. "I think the Draculas are cursed when it comes to love. Dad and Mum. Uncle Ivan and that woman. Will and I. And now you." Ingrid examined her perfectly manicured nails. "Although in your case it's self inflicted." Vlad didn't speak but she noted with satisfaction how his shoulders tensed up. "Who knew that you could be such a lying, cheating, connvining bastard?" Ingrid's voice was all sweetness and light as she dug the metaphorical knife into his heart. "Perhaps you're more of a Westerna than a Dracula?"
Vlad lifted his head from his arms. Tears glittered in his eyes but his voice was hard. "I said flap off," he snarled through his fangs. Lightning crackled overhead.
The last time she had seen Vlad like this was when he found out Erin was a slayer. Somewhere very deep inside her heart, sympathy stirred. Ingrid slid down to sit on the floor beside him. She moved to place her arm around his shoulders.
Vlad violently shrugged it off. "What are you doing?"
Ingrid rolled her eyes. "Comforting you."
Vlad laughed bitterly. "Why would you do that?"
Ingrid met his blazing blue eyes with a fierceness of her own. "Because I know what it's like to lose someone." The memory of grief stabbed her heart. Once again she moved to put her arm around her little brother. This time he didn't resist. Broken hearted, he rested his head on her shoulder as tears began to trickle down his face. Ingrid stroked his hair soothingly. "Also I don't want to lose my position if you do something stupid like throw yourself on a stake."
