"Here are 50 apples, numbered from 1 to 50," said Sheldon. "Personally, I think apple number 24 looks the most appealing. Amy, what do you think?"
"Number 48 looks the most appealing to me," Amy answered.
"I have invited a few guests to share their opinions as well," Sheldon continued. The camera panned towards Leonard, Penny, Howard, Bernadette, Raj and Stuart.
"Number 1 is what I'm going for," Howard responded.
"I'm picking Number 10," said Bernadette.
"My favorite is Number 6," answered Penny.
"I'll take Number 33," replied Leonard.
"I'm going with Number 42," said Raj.
"50 is my favorite apple," answered Stuart.
"Fascinating," Sheldon remarked. "Eight people are allowed to inspect 50 apples, apples which are more similar than dissimilar, with differences too small to easily notice or describe. Yet eight people give eight completely different answers as to which apple looks the most appealing. I have proven that beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. Given how small the human eye is compared to the rest of the human body and the larger universe, it must not be a very big deal. Does this exercise seem silly to you? It should. Yet for mysterious reasons, we do the same thing with humans. We have ceremonies where a couple dozen female humans are brought on stage and are then judged to determine which is the most beautiful, without any formal specifications or definitions as to what beautiful is. We call such ceremonies beauty pageants. I am here to tell you that beauty pageants are malarkey!"
