Easter in Helios
Human holidays were more than just a mystery, they were completely ridiculous and for no known reason at all, Caylee had Vetra hunting silly little plastic eggs; all kinds of plastic eggs in multiple colors and sizes, hidden throughout the ship. "Easter," she called it, a long defunct religious human holiday steeped in strange customs that had nothing to do with source religion. But Caylee and Suvi (who did celebrate the more religious aspects of it,) insisted it was for "fun."
'Unless there's a new gun in it for me, I won't be doing this shit again,' Vetra thought as she picked up another egg. There was, she knew, a box of Dex-chocoloate waiting for her in Caylee's room if she participated and she had a weakness for the stuff. Even the Levo-chocolate was tolerable, even if it left her a touch queasy. Dark chocolate was easiest to digest and quite addictive.
Still… This whole egg gathering thing made zero sense and it was far from fun. Then, as she spotted another egg, Liam reached for it. "Oh no, you don't! That shit's mine!" Vetra yelled, diving for it. She placed it into her basket with a smug nod of her head. Okay, if this was a competition, she could play that game.
A few moments later, she found another one, sniping it from Lexi, who said, "Vetra, this is a relaxing game, not a competition."
"Speak for yourself," Vetra snapped, dropping it with the rest of her growing hoard.
She continued to steal, snipe and scrounge eggs from the most unlikely places and right from under the noses of the very people who were her friends. It still wasn't exactly "fun" but she enjoyed herself nonetheless. "Fun" would be had in Ryder's quarters, chocolate in hand, while the Pathfinder and she made better use of their time together.
At the end of the egg hunt, Caylee and Suvi asked everyone to open their plastic eggs. Inside, they promised, would be various prizes and gifts. Mostly, it was just candy, thankfully fruit varieties that turians or humans both could digest. But there were also coupons for various items, including a new gun, Vetra realized as she unfolded the paper. And… A coupon for… A visit to the Kadara hot springs?
Caylee grinned as Vetra's eyes opened wide.
"You sneaky bitch," she laughed as she pulled Caylee in for a long kiss. "You know me all too well."
"We assumed your competitive nature would get the better of you so we made a good number of them Vetra-centric. Don't worry; the others benefitted as well. The hot springs go great for everyone!"
