Summary: Kagome finds something beautiful in the rain. Oneshot.

Kagome loved the rain.

She loved the dark covering of the clouds, the low rumble of thunder, and the soft patting of pain against the ground. Against the leaves.

Inuyasha always complained about the rain. Loudly. He would insist that it was just a hindrance, dragging them further behind Naraku in Jewel Shard number. He said all the pounding from the rain gave him a headache and that he didn't give a damn if it was necessary to life and good for the environment.

In times like these Inuyasha would shout, and Kagome would stop her foot angrily. Why don't you think of anything but yourself?! She would yell, only to have him yell in an equally frustrated voice Why can't you ever make good use of your powers and actually find Jewel Shards? You're the one who broke the damn thing in the first place! And now you're trying to shirk your duties!

Sango would hold Kirara close, protecting the fire neko from the roaring thunder. Miroku would sit in a corner and fiddle with toys with Shippo, hoping to keep the young kit's attention averted from the fight breaking out.

And Kagome, furious, would storm out of whatever hut of whatever village they had managed to take up residence in.

Out into the rain, she would run, enjoying the earthy scent and feel of the water against her skin. She could feel her anger and frustration melting away with the rain. And once she had run as far as she could, she would simply stand, face upturned to the rain and arm spread to welcome it.

Rain nourished everything, she could reason. Its mere presence brightened all colors, making them flare beautifully in the gloom around it. It hid your tears from the world, and mourned with you. It made kisses that much sweeter, and brought good reasoning to be closer to someone.

And it was on one such day that she stumbled across the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. True, it would have been beautiful with out the rain but somehow the crying sky made the scene just that more majestic.

It was a shimmer of silver, a flash of gold, deep magenta and indigo against a pale canvas. It was the unguarded stance of one so powerful.

Kagome gasped quietly, her step faltering as she shyly retreated behind a tree. And there, atop a small hill just outside the forest stood the proud Sesshomaru. His strong jaw tilted towards the heavens, molten eyes focused squarely on said heavens. She could do nothing but stare in awe as the dark gray contrasted sharply with the pure light he radiated.

She shouldn't intrude on such a scene, Kagome decided, but the moment she took a step backwards Sesshomaru's head snapped towards her, his eyes zeroing in on her's instantly, in sync with the low rumble of thunder.

And for one split second she could see. She saw anger, hurt, pain, frustration, loneliness, and sorrow. She could see though to his soul, which he kept carefully guarded by a frigid exterior, and it outdid her previous idea of what was the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen by a landslide.

He inclined his head slightly in acknowledgment of her existence as his emotionless mask slipped back into place, "Miko", before turning and walking in the opposite direction.

Kagome smiled softly to herself and turned back towards the village.
