He walks into the room, their room. A glass of water in one hand, the entire bottle of Advil in the other. He figures she needs it after what she endured. She didn't tell him everything, but she will eventually. She'll let him know everything. And he won't like it. And he'll be mad at the people who did it to her, but she'll be there to comfort him just like he is there now to comfort her.
He sees her from the doorway. She curled up on her side facing away from him. She looks like one lump on the side of their bed and she doesn't move at all. Finally, he sees her take a breath and he takes one of his own, unable to contain the relief he feels that she's okay. She's here. They're getting married.
He walks to the side of her bed and sets down the water and Advil on her bedside table knowing she'll take it and drink it when she wants. She just needs to have it next to her. He sits down by her knees, but she doesn't look at him. She feels some sort of shame even though she really has no reason to. He reaches out and runs a hand through her hair, which is haphazardly thrown up in a loose bun. He holds her face in his hand and she turns into it, inviting his warmth.
Then he climes over her and crawls into his own side of the bed. He reaches over her small body to turn off the light on bedside table and then the room falls into darkness. He wraps an arm around her waist and holds her close. He knows words are not necessary and that some night she just needs this, his warmth at her back as she works up the nerve to tell him everything.
A few hours he wakes to her deeps sobs. Her chest heaves and tears pour from her eyes. Again he doesn't say anything. Instead wraps her up in his arms and holds her again. She was this close to death. She was this close to never getting to marry him. She cries into is shoulder and he just holds her tighter until the sobs stop and his breath evens out. He loosens his grip and falls asleep with her in his arms. They are right where they need to be.
"I love you, Kate," he whispers. He doesn't think she hears it, but she does. And it saves her from the rabbit hole of possibilities she's fallen in.
AN: Sorry this is so short, but I haven't written in a really long time and that was floating around in my head last night after reading the interview so I had to get it out. Thanks for reading!
