Breath Of Life

Aza stumbled into the village. She knew she was bleeding. She knew she needed help. She stumbled to see the court physician. She knocked, knowing no one would be awake at this hour. Surprisingly, the door opened. A boy about her age stared back at her. Her knee's gave way due to the pain and blood loss. The rest became fuzzy.

-A few days later-

Merlin noticed the girl stirring. He resisted the urge to shake her awake. Jousling her would delay her awakening. He just sat and watched her. Gaius had ordered him to do so. She cracked one eye open, before opening the other and attempting to sit up.

"Easy. Not too fast. Just slowly, that's it." he eased her upright. She gave him a funny look, but nodded.

"I'm Merlin, Physician's apprentice."

"Aza. Nothing to my name." She replied. Gaius appeared in the doorway.

"Good, you're awake. A few more hours and we would've lost you." Aza yawned, no longer tired. She swung her legs over the side of the bed. Her legs were bruised and scarred, but that was normal for her. Since her family's murder, at the hands of the witchfinder Aredian. Her mother was the witch queen, and had died to spare her daughter. Aza had been searching for him ever since. She went to stand up, but something told her to stay here.

"When do you think you'll be leaving?" Merlin asked.

"Whenever the mood strikes me." She snarked. He looked shocked for a second, then rolled his eyes. One of those he thought to himself. He turned to his work, and Aza turned to leave. As she opened the door, A twinge of guilt hit her. The boy had nursed her back to health and all she could do was be snarky? Her mama taught her better than that. Yet she didn't turn around, say thanks or even smile at him. What was wrong with her?
