This is just a simple oneshot for the Smash Bros. series. Has anyone ever wondered how the characters react or what they would do just before a match? Here's my take on it.

Preparation

I'm standing in the middle of the battlefield, a determined expression plastered on my face. Almost everyone doubts my abilities as a fighter. Pikachu, Kirby, Jigglypuff, and a few select others believe in me, telling me to just ignore them. I was paired with some of them for the double-battles before, and although they're small and appear weak, they do pack a punch. But now I'm going solo.

For this match, we're given 3 minutes to fight. There are no items for us to use but it doesn't matter to me. I don't need the Smash Ball to help me get rid of my opponent. I'm not sure who I will be facing but I'm sure I can handle him or her.

There were wild cheers echoing through the arena. I looked out and saw some of my friends. Tiny sparks flew from Pikachu's cheeks. Kirby was busy munching on an apple. I also noticed Peach but I also noticed that she wasn't cheering like everyone else. In fact, she looked a little worried. What did she have to worry about? I gave her a reassuring smile but I don't think it eased her at all.

I turned back to the battlefield when I noticed a green pipe coming out of the ground. But, I'm already here. If I'm here, then that means that I'm gonna be facing…

"Let's-a go!" I saw him jump out of the pipe as it disappeared. All of a sudden there was silence from the audience. I saw that same determined look on Mario's face, only for it to immediately vanish when he met my gaze.

"Luigi?" He lowered his guard and walked toward me. "Are we…?"

Now I knew why Peach looked uncomfortable. Mario and I both know that we battled with and faced against each other, so why should this be any different? But who would've thought that we'd be facing each other for the first match of the tournament?

Then again, I'm not really comfortable when it comes to fighting my own brother, no matter how many times I have to face him. I always preferred battling alongside him, especially against Bowser.

Every once in a while I'd see Mario train. Sometimes I train with him, watch him, or just train alone. I don't know how long he's been practicing and I could've sworn I was shaking for a moment.

Mario turned to me and outstretched an arm. "Let's give 'em a fight they won't forget, bro!"

I always wondered where he got that confidence from. I took his hand and shook it, a smile flashing across my face.

"I don't care what happens out there, Luigi. Just show me your best, okay?"

"You got it." We stood there for a few moments before heading to the opposite sides of the stage.

"3…!" boomed the announcer's voice. This was it.

"2…!" Mario got into his offensive stance. How usual of him. I went for the defensive.

"1…!" Mario winked at me as if to say Good luck. I winked back thinking You too.

"GO!!" The crowd roared again with excitement as Mario and I leapt center stage and began to fight.

Apologies for the short story and I know it's not my best. I was simply experimenting and I know I could've made it longer. Now that I think about it, this seems more like a drabble than a oneshot but oh well. Any feedback is appreciated.
