The White Rose

Disclaimer: Knuckles, Rouge, Sonic, Tikal, and Amy are owned by SEGA, and Julie-Su is owned by Archie. Note: Knuckles is smarter and less gullible in this story than in others.

Knuckles strode across the Master Emerald's shrine, waiting for sunset, when Rouge would try to steal the jewel. He had to make sure that she didn't steal it. If she did, he might try to punch her . . . and miss . . . and shatter the emerald, letting Chaos and Tikal be released. Sure enough, the ivory bat's wings could be heard. Now, he had to wait . . .

"So Knuckles, did you miss me" the bat taunted. Knuckles blushed, but luckily, it wasn't noticed by Rouge. Knuckles, though was thinking about something else . . .

Flashback!

"Welcome to Cynthia's Flower Shop; how can I help you," a black bear drawled in a monotone.

"One white rose, please."

"Do you have 50 rings?"

"I . . . I'll pay 60."

"Thanks."

"Who's it for?"

"Rouge the bat. Don't tell anyone."

"Ok. Secret's safe. I'll just put it on the receipt."

Suddenly, a blue hedgehog sped by Knuckles and stopped when he saw the white rose.

"Man, you stole my idea."

"That's a first."

"What?"

"You have an idea."

Sonic pouted, than replied, "Well, I was getting a white rose for Amy, but I have to go with a hyacinth now because someone here stole my idea."

"How was I to . . . you're kidding, aren't you?"

"Yes, I am. Continue on with your buying."

"Ok."

"Wait, is that for Rouge?"

Knuckles sighed, than said "Yes, Sonic. Now please leave me alone."

"Sure, lover boy/echidna," Sonic sniggered as he sped away from Knuckles's fists of fury.

Knuckles shook his head, and left the receipt between his dreadlocks. Quickly, he crossed out "Rouge the Bat" in the receipt in a pen. Now she wouldn't be able to tell that the white rose was for her.

Flashback end!

"Knuckles, what's this? I see a receipt from Cynthia's Flower Shop in your dreadlocks?" Rouge quickly pried out the receipt from his dreadlocks. "Ooh, a white rose. Who's it for?"

Knuckles thought quickly and said "Julie-Su."

Rouge suddenly turned serious, and said, "Julie-Su? Why would you date that . . . I mean, I didn't know you liked her."

"Why would it matter to you?" Knuckles had her trapped, and smirked, triumphant. However, Rouge still had tricks up her sleeve, and replied, "Because with you having a girlfriend, the Master Emerald's free . . ."

"Don't even think about it, Batgirl. I'm still guarding."

Just then, Sonic came by and said, "Knuckles, has it happened yet?"

"No Sonic, and mind your own business."

"Ok."

"What is Sonic talking about?" Rouge asked, confused.

Knuckles wanted to tell her the truth, but he thought of all the times she tortured him, and said, "I'm dumping Julie-Su for Tikal."

"Well, aren't you a player, Knuckles." Rouge meant it in jest, but she was serious.

"Whatever. But the point is, GET OUT OF MY SHRINE!" Knuckles roared.

"Temper, temper, what a shame, Knuckles."

Knuckles couldn't respond to this, so his angel and devil came out to talk to him.

"Tell her your true feelings now before it is too late," the angel said.

"Think of all the times she's hurt you. Now's your chance to get back at her," the devil said. But the angel won, and Knuckles was shaken into consciousness by Rouge.

"Could you even hear me?"

"It doesn't matter. I've wanted to say this all along, but I haven't gotten the chance to. I love you, Rouge the Bat, and I just wanted to see if you loved me too. So, what do you say?"

"Well, aw, that's so cute, and I knew that the whole time."

"WHAT?!?!?!?!?"

"Oh, and you're cute when you're angry. Bye!"
