Prompt: Why? – Jason Aldean
Hotch was nervous about tonight because it was the first time that he'd be taking the step after losing Haley to Foyet. He couldn't believe that he was about to go out on a date. He was fighting an internal debate on whether he should call and cancel the date or not. He wasn't sure if he was actually ready to move on or to even try to move on. He was still hurting over Haley's death although not because he was still in love with her. He was hurting because he felt as if he got her killed even though he logically knew that he didn't.
He looked at his opened office door when he heard a sharp rap on it and sighed when he saw his best friend Dave standing there. "What can I do for you Dave?"
Dave chuckled and walked into Hotch's office and shut the door. "I can tell from looking at you that you're thinking of canceling your date tonight. Why? Why would you want to cancel now that you finally have the chance to get the woman that you have loved for the last fifteen months Aaron?"
Hotch sighed and rubbed a hand down his face. "What if Emily realizes that I'm not the man for her? What if she realizes that I'm not good enough for her? Why? Why did I have to go and fall in love with the one woman who should be the last woman that I ever fell for Dave?"
Dave shook his head and put his hand on Hotch's shoulder. "I can't really answer that for you Aaron. What I can tell you is that love doesn't ask why. Love doesn't have rhyme or reason it just is. You need to go with it instead of fighting it. If you fight it then not only will you end up hurt but you will end up hurting Emily and I don't think you want that."
Hotch shook his head and let out a breath. "No Dave I don't want that. In fact the last thing I want is to hurt Emily. I feel so much for her that I wonder if maybe I didn't feel it too fast for her."
Dave chuckled at that. "Hell Aaron if anything you felt what you are feeling too damn slow. Emily has loved you for a long time. Go out tonight and just have fun. She loves you Aaron so be yourself."
Hotch nodded and sighed once again. "Thank you Dave. You actually seemed to calm me down and I needed that."
Dave laughed at that. "I knew that you would be nervous but I didn't know you'd be this nervous. Everything will be fine tonight Aaron. Just show Emily how much you love her and you'll be set for life."
Hotch nodded and gave Dave a smile. "I'll do just that Dave. Thank you once more."
Dave nodded and left Hotch's office leaving him alone and as he did Hotch couldn't help but think his best friend was indeed a wise man.
