A/N. I saw the picture for the next episode on with both Zoe and Wade kneeling and looking at each other. It just came at me for this one-shot, I don't know if it's anywhere near what's going to happen, but I like to think so.
You Can't Plan Life
Zoe Hart was kneeling in defeat, knowing that she'd lost the race, but she could care less about the stupid race; she cared about the fact that George still picked Lemon over her. It felt like her heart was broken, she really, really, liked George, and he was everything she ever wanted in a guy. In all her dreams and fantasies he was the kind of guy she wanted to be with, he would have fit perfectly in the plan she'd devised for her life, but like everything else this past year it just didn't work out.
"You okay there, doc?"
Her head snapped up and saw Wade there looking down at her in concern. She hastily swiped her hand over her eyes and forced a smile, "Yeah. Sorry about losing the race though, I know you need the money to buy that bar of yours."
He shrugged, "Win some, lose some, I guess." Wade kneeled down beside her, much to her surprise, and said, "But that ain't the reason you're cryin', doc."
Now she shrugged, "I'm sure you've heard that George is going back to Lemon." He nodded and gestured for her to continue, "I just wish I wasn't so stupid. I should have known that I was just his rebound."
Wade sighed, "You ain't stupid, Zoe. If anyone's stupid it's Golden Boy for havin' the chance to be with you and lettin' it go, it's his loss."
She let out a breathy laugh, "Somehow I don't think he sees it that way."
"Zoe—"
Abruptly, she pulled of the jacket she was wearing, remembering it wasn't even hers. "Here," she thrust it in his arms, "I forgot to return it."
He gave it back to her, "S'alright. Keep it first, it's cold out here."
Zoe took it back and shrugged it back on, "Thanks," she mumbled. "I'm gonna head home now, things don't seem so bad once you're asleep," she said, standing up and began to walk away. Her arms were crossed tightly over her chest as she walked away quickly.
"Zoe, wait!" Wade jogged after her. He grabbed her arm and spun her around. She was crying again, tears running down her cheeks. "George is an idiot if he doesn't want you. Golden Boy—"
"It's not just about George. Up until this year I had my whole life planned out, I would be an established doctor at one of the best hospitals in New York, married to the perfect guy, living the perfect life. I guess George reminded me of that and now that things didn't work out with him it's just another reminder that nothing in my life is going according to plan."
"Look, Zoe," he said, wiping some of her tears off her face, "you can't plan life, alright? It'll throw you in all sort of crazy directions, you gotta let this plan of yours go and for once just go with the flow, Zoe. Maybe it's time you let go of your plan for life and use life's plan for you."
She nodded slowly, "Okay." She rubbed her nose with her hand, suddenly feeling ridiculous for crying. "Hey, that was actually pretty deep, cowboy," she laughed nudging his shoulder.
"Glad you thought so, now c'mon, doc, let's go," he said, walking ahead of her.
"Go where?" she asked, catching up with him.
"Where're we goin'? I'm cashin' that raincheck."
So how was it? Kinda short, but I think it's alright. I'm so excited for it. Feedback is greatly appreciated!
