I leapt forwards, dodging the silver slivers that were shooting out of the huge machine. "Don't worry, all I have to do is-" I tripped, grabbing the edge of the table and using the metal top as a shield whist I ducked next to the tower of drawers. "Damn it Claire! Where did you-" I hadn't even finished the sentence when the machine made a loud bang and I turned in time to see it go up in a huge ball of flame. Which actually looked quite beautiful...

Until I realised the lab would also go up in flames. As would the many books I had spent centuries collecting. I muttered a sting of curses under my breath as I ran around, looking for the 'fire extinguisher', a large red cylinder and something which Claire swore would put out any fire. When I had tried this out for my self, I'd found that it really did work, and that it was actually rather fun to use.

Of course Claire being Claire hadn't found it as entertaining as I had to start fires and put them out again. I think after the fourth 'accident', she'd caught on.

"Am I to be burnt alive today then, Myrnin?" called a voice from behind me. Ah. I'd forgotten Amelie was here. Why was th- ah yes, I'd invited her to come and look at my new invention. Ah. "Just a moment!" I sang, my teeth grating on each other as I searched for the 'fire extinguisher' with a little more haste.

"Myrnin, damn it, put the fire out!" Claire was standing in the doorway looking horrified. Had she never seen a fire before? Foolish girl. Of course I was going to put the fire out.
"Ah ha!" I suddenly spotted it, remembering that last time I'd used it... I'd been told by Claire to stop playing with it and had flung it under some bookcases. Oh well.

"Myrnin!" She sounded more than horrified now, she sounded angry. As if I had set fire to everything deliberately. Of course I wouldn't have! Major fires were no fun for anyone. I rolled my eyes, before smiling and turning to face her once more.

"And what if I don't wish to extinguish the fire?" I raised an eyebrow. The red cylinder was hidden behind my back, and I couldn't help but smirk. "Well?"

She looked back at me aghast, mouth wide open before visibly steadying herself. "Myrnin-" She was interrupted by Amelie who rose swiftly and gracefully from the armchair she had been perched in, took the thing out of my hands and used it, dousing the fire until it was all gone before throwing it back at me. I caught it, my vampire reflexes just as fast as hers and pouted.

She simply rolled her eyes before leaving.

"Next time Myrnin, no fires." Her voice sounded firm, and I sighed.

"I was going to put it out eventually..." I muttered, but it was pointless; her and Claire had already disappeared.
