Cedarpaw was walking through the forest, stalking a thrush. He dropped into the hunting crouch, wiggled his hindquarters, and pounced. The bird tried to fly away, but Cedarpaw was too fast for it. He gave it a quick bite to the neck and it went limp. "Well done!" his mentor, Nettlespring called from a distance. "Let's bring all your prey back to camp." They picked up the prey Cedarpaw had caught and ran back to camp just before sunhigh. 'I did so good on my assessment!' he thought. Cedarpaw was so excited to finally be a warrior. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath Highrock for a clan meeting." Rainstripe quickly rushed up to him and his siblings and started licking the fur that was sticking up, but he ducked away. "Today we are making four new warriors. Cedarpaw, Spottedpaw, Mintpaw, and Vinepaw please come forward.
"Cedarmist! Mintfoot! Spottedpool! Vinefire!" the clan cheered.
The day after his vigil, Cedarmist went out into the forest. He wandered quite far out, and he didn't realize how close he got to the twoleg nests. "Ouch!" he had fallen into a rabbit hole. "Oh! Hello!" said a cheery voice. "Do you need some help?" "What does it look like?" he growled. "Ok! What can I do to help?" she asked. "You can get a stick and help me get out." he replied. The she-cat helped him out of the ditch and then they talked. "Oh, by the way, I am Blue." "I'm Cedarmist." "That's a weird name." "It's because I am a warrior of ThunderClan." "What's ThunderClan?" "We are a clan of cats trained to fight and hunt for ourselves." "Isn't that really hard to do though?" "It gets easier." "Anyway, do you want to see my nest? I don't have to catch my own food." "Really? That sounds so much easier than clan life." They talked for days on end, Cedarmist started to eat kittypet food instead of hunting. Sometimes, he even stayed at Blue's den for the night. He started to let the twolegs pet him and hold him, and he finally decided to stay with Blue forever. "I'll be right back; I have to tell my clan I am leaving to live with you forever." Cedarmist ran back to camp and asked Birdstar to make an announcement from Highrock. "Cats of ThunderClan, I have decided to leave and live with my mate, Blue, a kittypet." "I always knew you were too scared to be a warrior anyway." called Tigerlight. "I am sorry, but this is my life now. Goodbye." and with that, he walked away and lived with Blue. They had three adorable kits, and Cedarmist became Patch.
