It was just another day at Hogwarts for Draco Malfoy.
He woke up, got dressed and went to the Great Hall for breakfast, not forgetting to taunt some first year Hufflepuffs on the way.
That was when he got the worst news of his life.
When everyone was settled in the Great Hall for breakfast, all the owls connected to the owl post flew in, and gave out letters and packages of many sorts.
Draco untied a box of homemade sweets from his mother and a mysterious letter from his owl, Lydia's, leg. I wonder what is says? He thought. So he read silently:
Dear ,
I am sorry to say that your newborn daughter, Evangeline Malfoy, and your fiancé, Aileen Endicott, were both presumed dead yesterday morning from severe apparition splinching.
Kindest Regards,
Head of Ministry Office,
Amelia Bones
That was the moment Draco Malfoy's life changed. And for the worst.
Draco just sat there, gaping at the letter. He might have been a mere 15 years old, but early relationships were encouraged in pureblood families, such as his.
When his disbelief wore off, the tears flowed and gushed out of his blue-gray eyes like a faucet that couldn't be closed. But he didn't care; the most important people in his life just died, for Melrin's sake!
He couldn't take it anymore. The wandering eyes, the whispers, so he just got up from his wooden seat and sprinted out of the Great Hall just before Dumbledore's speech.
Harry Potter witnessed everything. He just couldn't comprehend it all. Why would that cruel ferret be crying? He asked himself. But he couldn't come up with a good answer.
Little did The-Boy-Who-Lived know how good of an answer Draco Malfoy truly had.
