A/N: This is my first entry for this fandom. I watched the movie a while ago and I couldn't resist not writing something for it. I know it's short, but I hope you'll still enjoy. I'm surprised that there are only six other stories written for it...
Duchess Von Teschen paced through the big room. She looked as restless as she felt at the moment. The fire in the hearth was lit, casting a warm glow over everything that it could reach. Still that warmth didn't quite reach her heart. It hadn't done that for years. And why should it, really? Sophie had never seen this chilly place as her home to begin with. She was dying to get out of here, as soon as possible. Especially now that she had met him.
Now that she had gotten a taste of true freedom, there was absolutely no way that she was going back to her old, boring, dare she say unbearable, life.
She had already made her choice, but...what if he didn't drink out of the glass? He always did, but what if he chose not to today?
What if the prince knew she was planning something?
What if he pushed her off the balcony again and she died even before she could act?
There were just so many things that could go wrong…
In the end, though, she decided that it was all worth it. If she could be with her Eduard again…nothing would matter anymore. She'd rather die trying to get away than living with the knowledge that she could have stopped her sorrow.
Spoken like a true warrior. Leopold would be proud, the duchess thought sarcastically.
Of course, Sophie had wondered briefly if it was fair to let Leopold go through all of this, but only for a brief moment. Leopold was a wicked man. He deserved to get all the bad in the world on his plate. With him, it was harsh words and yelling. But in the end, he was a coward in every way. A coward that who always managed to get his way, but a coward nonetheless.
Eduard was different. His eyes were soft when he looked at her, not piercing like a knife. His smile was genuine and sincere, making her stomach make weird backflips. His mannerisms were gentle.
Eduard would make her happy. Therefore, she was willing to go on till the (bitter) end for him.
