"Hello, Kenzi!"

"Hi, Hale," the young woman carefully replied, watching the tall Fae man carefully. "What's up? Don't you and Dyson have some case or another to solve?"

"That's my life, thanks for telling it to me," Hale nodded in that same not quite sour tone of voice with which he had approached Kenzi. "So, I heard that you're leaving town?"

"Yup! With Nathan!" Kenzi said brightly. "I'm going to be in a band! That's so exciting!"

"What's so exciting about it?" Hale could not help but ask. "It's music! You travel around country making it to make money! I can make music and I don't find it so exciting at all!"

"You can make music?" Kenzi looked suspiciously, before remembering just what kind of Fae Hale was. "Oh right, you're a siren. Yeah, sure, you can sing and make other noises-"

"Other noises?" Hale said indignantly. "As a noble Fae I can play the oboe and the kithara and I can sing, dance and play simultaneously!"

"You can, can you?" Kenzi asked, slightly sceptically. "Fancy that! Trick, did you know about Hale's musical prowess?"

"It's not prowess, it's a talent – a lethal one in case of the sirens," Mr. Trick explained, not very helpfully (from Hale's point of view). "That's why I never ask him to sing or play on music nights."

"Ah. Of course. That's how it's always with you Fae – if something can be lethal, you ensure that it is," Kenzi said with a definite amount of disgust in her voice. "Well, Hale, it's been nice chatting with you, but now if you don't mind, I'm off to see Nathan. Bye!" And she left.

Hale glared at Trick. "Did you have to be so detailed?" he snapped angrily at the Blood King. "Do I go around telling everyone about your particular powers?"

"Sorry," Trick replied slightly sheepishly. "I didn't realize that you were trying to win your girl back-"

Hale's glare actually intensified. "She's not my girl and wasn't trying to win her back! We were just having a civil conversation-"

"I see," Trick said thoughtfully. "Well then, what can I say? Idle conversation costs nothing and brings nothing-"

"Forget it! Between the Moon incident and this, I don't need your advice!" Hale shook his head and left Trick's bar in a brisk, determined way, leaving the much-older Fae rather bemused.

"Well," Trick muttered, seemingly to himself. "Then I guess, Hale, you'll have to figure out for yourself just what Kenzi means to you, if she means anything at all-" He looked up but Hale was already gone.

Trick just sighed and went back to cleaning the drinking glasses.
