1He's Proud
"I'm Proud of you."
House's words repeated like a mantra in her head as she thought of what she was going to say to Chase and Foreman. Or rather, what they were going to say to her. Would they be shocked? Would Chase be struck speechless? Would Foreman be angry? 'He's proud of me' she reminded herself, 'House is proud of me, and I value his opinion the highest right?' Right.
'Let's get this over with,' she thought, as she walked as confidently as she could into the conference room, trying to hide the fact that there was an internal war raging inside of her, wondering what she'd just done, only five hours ago. Five hours ago Ezra was breathing, his heart was beating. He was suffering, but he was alive. Then she came along, and she killed him. Yes, she tried make sound less harsh, in her mind. Assisted suicide, putting him out of his misery... No. Because when it got right down to it, that's what she did. Killed him. She went against all her morals and killed him. "Stop it.' She chided herself, 'stop thinking like that. I did what I had to do.' Looking around, she realized with a sigh that her little act was put on for no one. The room was empty. All confidence gone, her shoulders slumped as she went to fetch a cup of coffee. She hadn't slept much at all, but when she did, her dreams were of House comforting her. She subconsciously touched her shoulder in the same place he had before.
"I'm proud of you."
Those words were her encouragement as she turned around to see Foreman and Chase standing at the doorway, watching her warily. 'Great,' she thought, 'How long have they been standing there?' She gave them an entirely false smile and Foreman cleared his throat. " Um, Ezra - He died last night." She could feel his eyes boring into her, waiting for a reaction. So she didn't give him one, just said simply, "I know."
"You know?" Repeated Foreman in disbelief, " that's it? He didn't die of natural causes Cameron, you know he didn't. House killed him. He killed him in the middle of the night so we wouldn't know, so we wouldn't be there to stop him, the man could have lived ANOTHER YEAR!" Finally she couldn't take it anymore. "FOREMAN! Stop." The second word was said in just barely a whisper. " House didn't kill Ezra." For a moment, Foreman was confused. Chases face filled with understanding, and he quietly fled the room, not wanting to hear the fight that was about to take place. Foreman didn't notice the Australian leave.
"Then who-?" He started to ask. Cameron interrupted him quietly.
"I did."
Foreman let her worlds sink in. "Cameron, why would you do such a thing! You were totally against it before! YOU!- House, who seemed to have appeared in the room out of no where, cut in. "Foreman," He said calmly, "leave her alone. She did the right thing." He watched Foreman tiredly for a moment, as the black man's expression shifted from one of anger to one of disbelief. Shaking his head, he patted Cameron on the shoulder- 'the same shoulder he held before," Cameron thought absently."-and walked into his office, Cameron saw him take out his Ipod before he closed the blinds. She left Foreman staring into space and walked out of the room. She made sure no one was watching before sliding down the wall happily, a smile on her face that hadn't been there since Ezra was admitted. "He's proud of me," She said softly to herself, "and that's all I need."
