Chihiro sat in her rocking chair reading her book, the soft; balmy breeze played with her shimmering brown hair. He golden brown eyes concentrated on the words. Her smooth white skin showed signs of sun and her hair had sun marks on top. The woman heard footsteps behind her. She set her book on the small table beside her. She turned her head to see her daughter come in as the sun was setting. She had tear trails down her face and Chihiro's face was instantly covered with worry. The six-year-old girl ran to her and threw her arms around her.
"What's the matter, my little Yugasa?" The young girl sobbed into her shoulder, and told her mother that some mean boys had picked on her and hit her. She showed her mom her bruised legs and upper arms. Chihiro rocked her small child in her arms.
"Mommy, will you sing for me?"
"What song would you like to hear?"
"The song daddy sang to you." Chihiro loved that song, she remembered the first time she had heard it. She had been camping with some friends in the woods that was actually very close to the tunnel. She had been sitting at a stream watching the currents roll about. She was thinking of another river she remembered though. Her head shot up as she heard a sweet, yet masculine voice singing a lullaby. It was Chihiro's sweet melodious voice that now sang those soft words.
Sleep my child, my little one sleep,
Down in the glade, where the river runs deep,
The wind whistles through, and it carries away,
All of your troubles, and cares of the day,
Rest my dear, my lovely one rest,
Where the white killdeer had built her fair nest,
Your pillow sweet clover, your blanket the grass,
The moon shines on you as the wind whistles past,
Dream my own, my pretty one, dream,
In tune with the song of the swift meadow stream,
Take wing with the wind as it lifts you above,
Tethered to earth, by the bonds of my love.
Yugasa smiled serenely and fell to sleep. Chihiro looked up and smiled at the man who had just stepped in and stood by her, both physically and mentally. She looked up to a smiling face, bright jade eyes, and shoulder length raven hair. Haku reached down a scooped his daughter into his arms. Her raven hair was wisps around his arms, her rosy checks softening her expression. Her thick black lashes brushed her checks. Her emerald eyes opened slightly and she had her mothers smile. She curled up in her father's safe arms. He placed her in her bed. He walked away with his wife, his arm casually around her waist. He had worked a year with Yubaba to get to her; it was pain staking, and torture. But it was worth it. Chihiro was worth. Yugasa was worth it. Haku contentedly held his wife, happy that at this moment, everything was perfect in his world.
