Normal POV

Henry was a surprised and a bit disappointed when he tried to hug Shawn after he recieved his gift and Shawn flinched at first and then, desperatly, felt him lean slightly in but never did he relax into the touch.

At first he was a little dubious. Shawn had been into this job for about eight months so it might be understandable that he didn't like to have arms around him with the amount of guns he had had pointed at his head.

But then he had started thinking about how Shawn was always hanging off everyone he came into contact with, especially Gus and Lassiter. He got to thinking about other possibilities.

Were his arms sore? No, Shawn rarely did anything strenuous.

Did he hurt himself? Possibly with all the crazy things he did, but unlikely, they hadn't had a reason to do anything dangerous in a few weeks.

So what could it be?

Then, he thought, could it be me?

The way he was raised, sure his dad and mother had given him all the love he had needed, he thought he raised Shawn to be a tough man, a man's man.

But, Mel had always told him he was rough on the boy, his own son, like the criminals he worked to protect his son against.

And then it occured to him that, while he had had his fair share of hugs as a child, he had never hugged Shawn while he was growing up. And by the time he was four he had convinced Mel that Shawn didn't need hugs, he was a big boy.

Granted he never hinted at it until he was reaching eightteen, he saw the looks that Shawn gave him when he yelled at him for making a simple mistake that any eight year old would make, and when he always made him do those excersises for his memory.

Shawn never liked those.

That one hug had been the first in about twenty-seven years, but who was counting?

But the way Shawn had looked at him after the hug... it was like... he couldn't believe that he was doing that. Like he would sooner see the moon fall out of the sky (knock on wood) than Henry hug him.

Maybe that was the extent of damage that he had done to Shawn as a child.

Maybe he should listen when Shawn tells him about things he did when they, him and Gus, were children that, when Henry heard them again, really did sound horrible and mean spirited.

Man, that was a bummer.

He needed to fix this problem.

After all he didn't want a repeat of the disappearance of his son for three years.

Now did he?

End: 2:04 AM

Well that was fun to write.

im sorry i see henry as an evil sarcastic bastard who treats my poor Shawnee horribly.

but i think i should be fair and maybe look at it a little bit closer so i got into it in this trying to be fair to henry.
