It was nice to get away from all the chaos. Of course, this wasn't to say that she disliked all the new gems – they were all wonderful and she'd already made some friends – but Lapis wasn't much for a crowded scene. It was back to the fields; peaceful and quiet.

Well, not really quiet.

"Hey!" came a loud yell from beneath where she was perched on the water tank. "Hey up there!" She looked down, but she didn't need to check who it was. Just as she leaned over to see, something whizzed upwards in front of her, brushing her bangs.

"What're you doing?" asked the small, yet inexplicably loud and gregarious green gem before her, who was balanced precariously in mid-air on a dustbin lid.

"What does it look like I'm doing?" replied Lapis, bemused by Peridot's energy as she hopped on the balls of her feet.

"Sitting around being a loner while your friends work tirelessly on rebuilding the barn!"

"I told you, I'm done for the day. You should be too, look how late it is!"

"Awww… Did I miss the sunset?"

"By minutes," Lapis smirked.

"Guh. I guess I should stop for today. I'm just so excited! Now all the diamond drama's over with, I can work on whatever I want! I've been adding some new ideas to the blueprint; how do you feel about a giant TV? Camp Pining Hearts in high definition!"

"That does sound pretty cool-"

"I know right! Hold on, lemme go get my vision board!" Peridot enthusiastically began clambering back on her lid.

"Hang on!" Lapis laughed, grabbing Peridot by the collar with ease and setting her down next to her.

Peridot acquiesced, soon quietening and settling down to lie facing the stars; the sky was cloudless. Lapis followed suit, and they wordlessly relaxed in each other's company.

"Homeworld sure seems like just another star from here." mumbled Peridot. It looked like she'd lost awareness for a second, giving her busy mind a space to think.

"Well, yeah. That's what Earth does. It puts things into perspective." Lapis replied.

"Yeah..." They fell back into silence. When you're close enough with someone, you don't need communication to bond. Each other's presence is enough, and you appreciate the moment in its simplicity.

After a minute, Lapis looked over to her friend. Peridot's eyes were shiny and wide, a telltale sign that she was too lost in thought to be focused on the stars that reflected so beautifully…

All of a sudden she blinked, and fell back to reality. She must have noticed Lapis staring, because her head turned and their eyes met.

The moment ended abruptly and they both blushed and looked away. All the same, Peridot shimmied a bit closer until their arms brushed each other.

They both smiled and, without either of them leading, their hands interlocked.

It wasn't any kind of special moment, just a mutual affection that was simple and sweet and platonic and-

The dim stillness suddenly erupted with light, and everything felt right.

A tall, dazed gem opened her eyes to find herself lying atop a water tank, facing the stars.
