Hermione crouched down behind a fallen log, staring up at the bright moon. Her heart pounding in her chest, she wondered where the others had gone. It was hard to see through the thick forest, but somewhere out there was Harry, Ron, Sirius, and Remus. She had to keep a grip on her fear, losing control wouldn't help anybody in this situation.

Suddenly, she froze, certain she heard footsteps heading her direction. Holding her breath, she dared to peek just over the log, but couldn't see anything. She ducked back down and a hand immediately covered her mouth, smothering her scream. Looking over her shoulder, it was Harry. He was filthy and breathing heavily.

"Have you seen Ron?" he whispered close to her ear.

Trembling, she shook her head no, and pulled his hand away from her mouth.

"What do we do?" she asked, lips grazing the shell of his ear. "We can't leave without him and-"

"What was that?!" Harry choked, cutting her off, and staring all around them.

Taking a deep breath, Hermione bit her lip and braved another look. And it was a good thing she did, too. Ron was stumbling around, blood running down his arm. Harry quickly retrieved him and together, they all tucked themselves behind the log.

"Have you seen Sirius?" Harry asked.

"Not since we first entered these bleeding woods," Ron answered, trying to stop the blood flow.

"Me either," Hermione added, taking over the care of Ron's wound.

"We can't just sit here and wait," Harry complained. "We've got to find our way out of here."

"I know, but we can't leave-"

A howl cut her off. It was entirely too close for comfort and without a moment's hesitation or discussion, the three leapt to their feet and sprinted in the opposite direction. She could her the steps of the beast in pursuit and had to fight down the panic. Glancing over her shoulder, she could barely make out the outline of its shaggy head.

"Faster, he's gaining on us!" Harry gasped, leading the way.

Suddenly, Ron yelped, followed by a crashing sound. He had been tackled.

"Ron!" They shouted together, spinning around.

He was thrashing around on the ground, while the large dog pinned him at the shoulders to the ground.

"Run!" he screamed.

"Go!" Harry shoved Hermione away. "You can still make it!"

Hermione barely caught a glimpse of Harry holding his wand out in front of him, as the dog growled and faced off with him. She ran as fast as she could, she had to reach the edge of the forest or it would all be lost.

Just as she thought she would make it, strong arms wrapped around her from behind.

"Gotcha!" the man yelled triumphantly.

"No!" Hermione wailed, struggling to get free.

A horn sounded from mere steps away, where the forest ended.

"Better luck next time," Remus chuckled, releasing her.

"Well, it's really no fair when Sirius is running around on all fours," she pouted, disappointed with the loss.

Harry, Ron, and Snuffles trotted out of the woods to meet them.

"Did we win?" Harry asked eagerly.

"Sorry, Mate, but you didn't stand a chance," Sirius announced, seeing the downtrodden look on the young woman's face. "Remus and I are the all-time Hogwarts hide and seek champions. No one has ever beaten us."

"Bollucks, let's go again," Harry challenged.

Ron and Hermione groaned in unison; it would the fifth straight game that night. But Harry was determined to win, so as usual when he lead the way into the forest, his best friends followed silently behind him, as the began their fifth straight loss.
