THEME: Sports
If one needed proof that Phillip Deville and Dillan Pickles were polar opposites, they should think to look at their feelings about sports.
Phil felt that most sports were engrossing and exciting. Why, the thirteen-year old male liked to think that sports were manly, and although rough around the edges, they were all right once you actually played.
His favorite sport was, as anyone could predict, soccer. Despite the fact that his sister, Lil, was better at the sport, that would never stop him from liking it and playing. He had learned when he was younger that winning definitely was not all that mattered; it was just enjoying the sport.
However, he did have a sport that he disliked. This sport was golf. He felt that it took too much time, and the games were always simple. It was just bland and simple, with no action. This was also a huge reason why he always turned down his father whenever he requested playing golf. Phil could never learn to like such a useless sport like golf!
Meanwhile, Dil felt that most sports were tedious and dull. They could never bring out the higher interest in him. Every time his older brother, Tommy, asked if he would like to watch a football or soccer game, he turned him down. Now, football was bad, but soccer was even worse! Who invented being paid to kick a ball and make "goals?" Whoever paid a person for that was wasting their money! In his opinion, soccer was, if possible, the worst sport ever.
Now, as for the best sport, he would choose golf. It was rather simple, and there certainly were not as many injuries with golf as there were with a sport like soccer or baseball! If his father along with the other dads requested that Dil go with him to a golf game, Dil would never turn them down. Why wouldn't you want to play something that you love?
Despite their athletic differences, once they began dating, they found a way to enjoy each other's favorite sport, even though they had previously hated it.
Dil would stare at Phil as he moved, and, despite the fact that 70% of the time he had no idea what was going on, he would still cheer for Phil at his games. Sure, it didn't make Dil like soccer itself any more than he previously had, although at least now he could stare at his boyfriend with a watery mouth as he played. It made the idea better, even though he received many stares.
Meanwhile, Phil was feeling the exact same whenever Dil played golf with his father. The sport was still extraordinarily boring without Dil there. Now Phil could, too, stare at Dil as he played. It meant that he didn't need to pay attention to the sport.
Therefore, despite their athlete differences and their differences in general, Phillip Deville and Dillan Pickles showed that even two people whom are polar opposites could make a relationship work.
