I apparated to Godric's Hollow and the sight – I couldn't even put it into words.

He promised, he thought, he promised he's keep her safe. Already, I could feel my eyes stinging with tears. I raced over to the crumbled remains of Lily Potter's house. I raced up the front path, dreading what I would find.

I found the dead body of James Potter.

James Potter, my mortal enemy. But seeing him dead, it made me see a whole new side of things. His glasses were askew and his arm was up as if he was holding someone back. I leant against the door frame, breathing in and out and I knew I was crying. Not the fact that James Potter was dead, but for the fear that Lily Potter was.

I stepped over James Potter and slowly, one step at a time, I walked up the stairs. Please, please don't be dead. I thought over and over again and on the top step, all of the doors were swung open.

I heard something.

Someone, I meant and slowly, keeping my eyes and ears open, I shuffled over to the noise and there, in a cot crying, was little Harry Potter. Seeing him alive gave me a jolt of hope. Maybe Lily Potter wasn't dead. Maybe she was still alive.

I walked quicker over to the small baby in the cot, and he began crying louder, probably due to the fact that a strange man was approaching him. I ignored him and pushed the door open slightly and my suspicions were confirmed.

Lily Potter was dead.

I had to put my hand over my mouth to stop myself from retching. This was all too much to see. I put my arm out on the wall for support, doubling over in pain. Lily Potter. Lily Potter – beautiful Lily Potter was dead. Her red hair was spread around her head and little Harry Potter was jumping up, crying and screaming for his Mummy and Daddy.

I crawled over to Lily Potter, rocking her in my arms and tears streamed down my cheeks and onto Lily. I pulled her up, hugging the dead woman who I loved in my arms. I was sobbing uncontrollably and loudly. How could Dumbledore have let this happen? He promised that they would be safe...

I sat rocking Lily Potter's body all through the night and way into the morning. I only stopped when I heard a loud noise downstairs. I blinked away the tears and strained my head up. Sirius Black – my other mortal enemy had arrived and he had the same expression on his face that I did.

"Lily." I croaked. "I – I'm going to go now. I'll be back, I promise."

I kissed her forehead and stood up. I heard shouting and grieving downstairs. I looked at Harry Potter, who was still crying.

"See you in ten years, Potter." I greeted, pulling my wand out, but not before taking one last look at Lily.

"I've loved you Lily, always."

And always it was.
