Duel Seal

Prologue

I ran - my lungs burned from lack of oxygen; and sand gathered in my shoes. The house came into sight, but I knew I wouldn't reach it before they grabbed me. As I turned the corner to avoid them again, one of the two boys chasing me jumped out in front of me. I screamed out as they roughly grabbed me by my arms. The two chasing me were almost a foot taller than me. They had dark hair but blue eyes reminding me of my own.

"Help me, Saki!" I screamed before a fist met my cheek. The force sent me into the chest of the boy holding me up by my wrist. Suddenly, the one holding me let me go and for a moment I was free, only to be pulled towards the familiar form of my twin sister.

"What are you doing to, Akio?" She growled as she pushed me behind her. Her black hair tickled my face. I clung to her black shirt, a teal dragon wrapped around the right shoulder of the shirt.

My attention went back to the boys who had been chasing me. My sister stepped forward to fight them as I stayed out of the way. One shot forward and Suki punched him in the nose. I guessed from the blood that gushed out of his nose that it was broken. The other stepped forward and picked his friend up, and then they both left in a hurry. Her attention then came to me, relief on her face. I saw the setting sun behind her as we stood in the dark alley way.

"Akio, are you alright?" She asked, holding me by my forearms. I nodded my head and I heard footsteps coming towards us. The first thing I saw was his crimson red hair and a red kakji that means love on his forehead. His teal colored eyes rimmed by black circles from lack of sleep, made him look like he had two black eyes. He wore a light brown shirt and dark brown pants. A gourd was on his back where he stores his special sand to fight with.

"Gaara!" I exclaimed and ran over to him. He lifted me on to his shoulders and I giggled wrapping my arms around his head.

"Why are you two out so late?" He demanded and I started to fiddle with the hem of my pink dress.

"Two older boys from your class were chasing Akio down," Suki said with a small growl. "They both had dark hair and blue eyes. I broke one of their noses."

"Gaara, please don't kill them. They didn't harm me at all." I said as we headed home. We walked into the very plain living room with sandy colored walls with a matching couch. Gaara put me down but grabbed my chin. He touched my cheek and I winced. I saw as his jaw clenched tight before relaxing again as if not to scare me. It was where they had punched me.

"Where did you get this bruise?" he asked in a low voice that had a promise of pain for the person who harmed me. The look in his eyes were of pure evil mixed with worry.

"They slapped me just before sis saved me." I said and he then looked down, his eyes stopping on my arms.

"Did they also give you the ones on your arms?" He growled and pulled me into a tight embrace, shock filled me. I nodded and I couldn't stop the tears that came to my eyes.

"It will be alright, they won't get away with this." He said and someone else wrapped their arms around me.

"Please, Gaara, you don't have to kill them." I begged him, but my plea fell on deaf ears as he once more carried me to the room I shared with my sister. He placed me on the bed as Suki climbed up to lay beside me. Gaara tucked us in before turning to the door to leave. "Good night, Gaara."

"Good night." He replied and closed the door. The next day, I found out that the two boys, who had attacked me were found dead. Guilt filled me, knowing I didn't stop Gaara from doing so.
