So hi. I'm new to this.
Disclaimer: Disclaimed.
Tucker clutched his gritty fingers around the russet painted runner of the sled, the front just barely over the edge.
"I'm going to break every bone in my body." He declared.
"Probably." Danny said.
"Most likely, yes," Sam agreed.
"Thought so." Tucker shook his head.
What was he doing here? He was seeking out danger rather then trying to protect the town from it. Now he felt he was pulled by two magnets. One kept tugging him backwards, away from the edge, where it was safe. The other kept him suspended in this moment- in the real world, with the two kids that are his friends.
"You ready?" Sam asked.
Tucker held his eyes closed a moment, then opened them. "If this is what living means, I guess..."
He pushed off
{~}{~}{~}
It was the longest five seconds of his life.
When his brain vibrated back into place, Tucker rolled over and sat up. There was mud splattered on his glasses. His mouth tasted of grass.
"That was..." He spat out a blade of grass. "Wow. That was wild. That was so crazy, I don't even... Wow. Just wow. What?"
Danny and Sam were cracking up.
"Come on guys. Is there mud in my hair?"
They only laughed harder.
"No, you're just- your reaction," Sam gasped out finally. "We're laughing because you're, like, a bubble of glee."
"I was laughing because of the mud all over him," Danny pointed out.
The climb up seemed easier and lighter, maybe with anticipation to do it again, or the sheer knowledge that the hill Tucker had feared for its looming height wasn't as tall as he thought it was.
