A/N: Hey everybodyyyyyy. Um so yea new story it's a song-fic I heard this song and I was like hey I'll write a story with that song. Yeah that's how I usually write when I'm bored or I have a burst of inspiration. Oh yeah, um in this story they already knew who was going to be the Careers for the games even do Cato, Clove, Marvel, and Glimmer are like kids. Sorry if I confuse you guys cause I got confused what I was going to say and yeah. I'm going to stop my babbling which I seem to do that a lot.

Disclaimer: I do not own the song ''Dead Hearts" by the Stars I think. I also do not own "The Hunger Games."

They had lights in their eyes

They had lights in their eyes

I remember seeing the future Careers from Districts One and Two when they were all young. They were so excited and had these lights in their eyes that were so bright when they first began training. Now the Careers of the 74th Hunger Games had no such lights in their eyes.

Did you see the closing window?

Did you hear the slamming door?

Every time I saw a Career die, I thought of a closing window and a slamming door. Those two things represent the life taken away by the Capitol from a child I once knew

They were kids I once knew.

They were kids I once knew.

These were children I once knew! Innocent children put in a cruel world that nobody should ever be in. They were already pieces in the Capitol's game from the day they were born.

I can say it, but you won't believe me

You say you do, but you don't deceive me.

Whenever an outsider sees a Career, the first thing they think of is a heartless person. I always said, "They aren't all heartless." They always say, "I believe you." But they don't deceive me.

It's hard to know they're still out there

It's hard to know you care

It's hard to know that these kids are out there, but buried six feet below in the ground.

As a trainer you're expected to not care they are dead. "Oh they are worthless they didn't win,'' you would say, "They should be dead." But who really and truly means what they are saying?

Dead hearts are everywhere

Dead hearts are everywhere

Everywhere you see there are dead hearts. The family of the deceased, starving children, and, you. After so many years of seeing kids die, your heart just dies.

Did you touch them, did you hold them?

Did they follow you to town?

I remember seeing Clove a couple weeks before the reaping. She already knew what her mission was for the Games, to bring pride to her district. But she did something a Career barely does: she was scared. I saw her since as a trainer I had to check on the volunteers were doing and she was there quietly sobbing and saying, "I am not scared." I went over and hugged her. I also told her it was going to be fine. Sadly, it wasn't.

Was there one you saw too clearly?

Did they seem too real to you?

We all remember Marvel, the boy who killed the girl from eleven. Everybody thought he was a natural born killer. He seemed too perfect, too real like he was actually born to kill. No child is born to kill.

They were kids I once knew

They were kids I once knew

They were kids I once knew

They were kids I once knew

Now they're all dead hearts to you.

Now they're all dead hearts to you.

They were kids I once knew

They were kids I once knew

Now they're all dead hearts to you.

Now the phrases, "They were kids I once knew" and "Now they're all dead hearts to you" will forever be engraved in my mind with the images of the Careers of the 74th Hunger Games dead
