Six months had passed since the fourth Blight ended. The kingdom of Ferelden were still recovering but its people continued their everyday life with new vigor. Their new king Alistair Theirin and queen Anora brought the lands into a new golden age. Trade flourished as treaties was made with Orlais and other distant nations. Some believed that Alistair was Maric or even Calenhad reincarnated. But everytime anyone brought this up in court the king simply answered that he would still be a nobody if it werent for his friend Caine Cousland, teyrn of Gwaren and newly appointed Warden-Commander of Ferelden.
"Ser Kaldrid, do you know where my wife is?" Teyrn Caine stood before a large mirror, dressed in the Warden-Commander armor that he aqquired at Soldier's Peak. The warden crest on his chest shimmered in the light from all candles in the room.
"Teyrness Leliana is in the chapel I believe, my lord" Ser Kaldrid answered. He was captain of the guard and a very good warrior. Caine couldnt stop thinking that Ser Kaldrid would become a great asset to the Wardens if he ever should join them. But he knew that someone trustworthy and loyal needed to guard his land while he was away. Yesterday a messenger had arrived from Denerim, the capital of Ferelden, with a letter from the king. As the senior Warden in Ferelden and a national hero Caine would become the Commander of Vigils Keep in Amaranthine. There the Grey Wardens would replenish their numbers to strenghten their presence in Ferelden. Caine would supervise it all but that was not all. Reports of darkspawn movements had been troubleing the court for weeks and something needed to be done. The new Wardens first mission was to protect the northern lands and find out why the darkspawn threat hadnt ended with the death of the archdemon.
"I wished I could go to with you, my lord" Ser Kaldrid said while he gave Caine his sword, Starfang.
"I know, but someone need to guard the lands and the teyrness. Especially in her delicate condition." Caine grasped Starfang, a sword made by metor ore. A truly unique blade.
Ser Kaldrid looked at the sword for a moment and then at Caine
"I wont fail you. And I will keep a watchfull eye on the teyrness at all times...If you dont mind me asking ser. What will you name it?"
Caine looked into Ser Kaldrids eyes. "If its a boy I shall name him Bryce, after my father, and if its a girl Leliana wants it to be named Celene."
