Scream as you are dyed in the most vivid crimson.
Whether your own blood or the blood of others, it matters not.
Because you know that both they and you deserve it all.
They killed him.
You would kill them.
It's only equivalent exchange.
The sky had been red with flames.
It was a beautiful colour. Even as he heard the screams, knew people were dying, sometimes felt the heat, he could not help but think that it was a beautiful scarlet.
The same shade as his coat.
They cremated him because there were too many bodies for even a war hero to get a proper grave.
He watched the smoke billow upwards, and thought of how fitting cremation was for he who created flames with a snap of his fingers.
He killed them all and reveled in their blood, but no matter how many he killed he knew it would not bring him back to life.
He didn't cry for him because if he cried it would be final. He still had the hope that at any moment he would wake up and find out it was all a horrible dream.
To cry for him would shatter the illusion.
He was as good as a machine now in the eyes of everyone, but a machine was just what the military wanted.
A machine couldn't feel pain, so it was what he wanted too.
Were his goals completed or had they just ceased to matter? Either way he felt a sense of peace and lethargy settle over every aspect of his life.
If there was a god, maybe it wasn't too late to repent.
No, he was sure he would be in Hell, so he would forgo repenting and join him there one day.
He had been practicing with the gloves. He could control the flames now, though not like he had been able to.
It was good enough for what he wanted to do.
"So that's how they felt," he thought to himself.
He didn't scream.
However, he cried.
And he whispered something, to the person he was leaving for, the person he held a faint hope he was rejoining.
"I'll see you soon."
A short note: this was from Edward's perspective, about going to a nondescript war with Roy, and Roy died. I avoided using names, but if you can't tell who's the "he" I am referring to at any given point tell me and I'll tell you.
