Narcissa tightened her cloak around her as she waited for her sister, Bellatrix, to stop groping Rodolphus Lestrange and to board the train with her. She sighed inwardly and glanced at the huge clock towering above her—the hands were reaching eleven quicker and quicker. "Where are they?" She mumbled to herself, scuffing her black shoes on the platform anxiously.
"Cissy, why are you waiting here?" Bellatrix emerged, her hair out of place and her make-up slightly smudged. Narcissa rolled her eyes and grabbed her sister by her arm, dragging her onto the train. "I was waiting for you, Bella," she replied curtly. They all climbed onto the train, chattering and laughing with one another.
The whistle blew, and the train doors began to close when Lucius Malfoy ran through the wall and up to the carriage where everybody else was. "Wait!" he cried, skidding to a halt by the doors. Rodolphus pulled his wand out, and pointed it at the doors.
"It's not going to open, Rod," mumbled Bellatrix.
"You'll see, Bella…Alohomora," Rodolphus muttered, and the doors swung open for a split second. Lucius jumped onto the train with his luggage in a hasty style, before the doors slammed shut and the train began to leave Platform 9 & 3/4.
"Nice going," complimented Bellatrix, fluttering her eyelashes at Rodolphus before turning to Lucius. "Great job at holding everything up, Lucius,"
"It wasn't Lucius's fault," Narcissa murmured, her long blonde hair falling over her shoulders. She gave a little shake to push it backwards.
"Oh, I wouldn't be so sure," Rodolphus replied smugly, and taking Bellatrix by the arm, they went off to the compartment they had all shared since first year. Lucius stared at Narcissa greedily, his eyes sweeping over her. "Come on Cissy dearest, we better follow on." His tone was silky, and he placed a hand on hers.
"No, thank you," declined Narcissa, "I will follow on when I want to."
"Now now, don't be so rude," Lucius frowned at her, and "I'll have to teach you some manners, my girl."
"Since when was I your girl? And since when have you told me what to do?" Wrinkling her nose in distain, she moved to push past him but he caught her arm, "You'll always be my girl, Cissy dearest."
She pulled free and stalked off, cloak swishing. She passed her cousin's compartment, and paused. She opened the door and poked her head through, and addressed her cousin with a light tone. "Hello, Sirius. I heard that you left your house."
"Well, yeah," Sirius replied, looking quite handsome as he flopped against the windowsill. "I couldn't stand another moment with all that pure blood mania being thrown around." He sighed, and glanced at his Slytherin cousin with curiosity. Narcissa did not associate herself with the Gryffindors so openly, usually—it was her guilty secret. She smiled in response, and took Wormtail's vacant seat. "Where is Peter?" she asked, straightening her skirt.
"He's around…somewhere." James Potter spoke up, pushing his glasses up his nose and giving her a cheeky smile.
"I hope so, James! Sirius, Regulus told me that you have been blasted off the family portrait." her voice conveyed sympathy; she had always had a soft spot for her cousin, and his friends but didn't particularly know why.
Sirius grinned at her. "Yeah, yeah I was."
"And that doesn't bother you?" Narcissa looked slightly surprised.
"Nah," Sirius replied earnestly, "It's just a portrait."
Narcissa thought this was rather brave of Sirius to be so accepting of the situation, considering how strict his parents were—disowning their son because he didn't share their views. She nodded in answer and shifted her body slightly as she began to pay attention on Remus Lupin. Narcissa liked Remus, despite his affliction, because he was so wise and sympathetic—he was constantly there for whoever needed a little guidance and help. "How are you, Remus?"
"Rather well, thanks Narcissa," Lupin replied pleasantly, ruffling his dark hair carelessly. "Defence against the Dark Arts should be good this year though."
"How come?" Narcissa asked, leaning against Sirius and ruffling his hair in a way she used to do when they were smaller, on the rare occasion that they were allowed to play together. The contrast between Narcissa and Sirius was evident and their peers were surprised to learn that they were cousins.
"Well," Lupin replied, choosing his words carefully, "I hear we get to learn more about the unforgivable curses. Apparently," a trace of disgust flickered across his face, "we may have to perform them."
"On people?" James spoke carefully, looking rather disgruntled, "Bloody hell, I swear You-Know-Who has infiltrated the school system."
"Not people, fortunately James," Lupin replied reassuringly, "just insects and spiders, I think...I guess your friends will be excelling this class." He looked at Narcissa sharply.
Narcissa looked uneasy, but then broke into a glittering smile. "I doubt that—no one can ever top your grades, Remus."
At that moment, the door to their compartment swung open, and Lucius and Snape stood in the doorway.
"Hello Snivellus, not wearing your mums blouse today I see?" Sirius said cruelly, watching Snape shudder slightly. Snape's expression betrayed him for a moment as a glimpse of sadness appeared, and Narcissa frowned at Sirius.
"Come on Narcissa - you can do better than this lot." Lucius sounded smug, but there was something in his voice that suggested he was pleading. He glared at James. "Potter."
"What do you want Malfoy? Ah, you're Snivellus' babysitter I see?" James said slyly, and Sirius roared with laughter. Remus shook his head slightly, and buried his head in a book.
"Watch your attitude, Potter," Lucius hissed, "maybe that's why Lily doesn't like you."
"I hear you still haven't got a girlfriend, Malfoy," James replied sarcastically, "maybe it's because everybody thinks that Snivellus is your girlfriend."
"How dare you, you deceiving little blood traitor-"
"Oh, get over yourself, Malfoy." James said angrily, standing up to his full height and pushing them out of the door. "And stay out - you good for nothing jerks!"
Narcissa shook her head, her hair falling over her face. "Oh, great James, now do you see what I'm going to put up with when I go back?"
Remus placed a hand comfortingly on Narcissa's shoulder. "It'll be alright, they'll get over it sooner or later. I promise you."
Narcissa nodded, but was still unsure.
