Chapter 1
"Shocking."
"Wake up, Cynder!" I said, shaking the black dragon's body.
"Cala, what do you want?" she mumbled, eyes straying to the Elemental Clock. "It frickin' One o' clock in the morning!" She closed her eyes as I sighed.
"Cynder, I had another dream."
At that, her green eyes shot open and she whacked her body into an upright position.
"CALA!" she screamed, eyes filled with fear.
"What, Cynder? What's wrong?" I lifted my claws to my neck. Something-like chains-had dug deep into my neck, and a lightning bolt shape had been driven into one of the veins. I groaned. This was why I couldn't breathe properly?
"Cala, we HAVE to tell The Chronicler! Or at least Ignitus!"
"No," I replied. "Cynder, they CANNOT know! Only Spyro can be informed of this. We'll need him if we're gonna stop this-"
I looked back at Cynder. There. Now she was gonna go syko at me for-
"TRYING TO DESTROY THE DARK MASTER?" she screamed. "ARE YOU CRAZY?!?"
I ran to the other side of the room where I kept my wiring and building tools. I grabbed a length of wire and a bunch of chains.
"How 'bout we find out?"
Looping the wire and chains through a ripped part of my wing membrane, we both bolted to Spyro's locked door. Using one of my claws, I unlocked the door and saw Spyro jump up to see the intruder as it swung open. He sighed when he saw who it was. Then, his eyes, too, filled with fear. And that's saying something. "Cala, what happened to your neck?"
I sighed again.
"No time to explain." My eyes flicked around to see if anyone was listening. The place I was about to mention had been forbidden to talk about by the Dragon King himself. "We're going to Convexity."
Spyro choked on the air. "But we'll have to get past that Fear riddle again!" He looked over at Cynder. While I had been watching through the Visions Pool and Spyro had actually faced his fear, Cynder had been captured by Gaul, so she had no idea what he was talking about. Then, Spyro explained:
"When the Eternal Night was near, I went in search of The Chronicler." There was a name we all knew well. "In the Celestial Temple, the Temple of Time, where be lived, there were heaps of Puzzles, Riddles, if you may, and all these creatures we had to battle. Then…the Fear riddle." He looked over to me.
"Expose your mind, to summon ghost," I said, imitating the soft voice. "And face alone, what you fear most." Cynder shivered.
"What did you fear, Spyro?" She asked, voice unsteady.
"Uh…" he cut off for a moment. His eyes flicked from Cynder to me. And I knew why. "It…it looked like an…" he paused. I knew what he was thinking. Adult? He thought. I picked up on this and nodded. Adult.
"It looked like a kind of…Adult version of you."
Cynder looked down at her claws. "Oh…"
"Cynder…" Spyro said. "It wasn't actually you. It was an Elemental Dragon."
"It not that, Spyro." She game him a hug. "Thanks for trying, but…what would I fear?"
We looked at each other. "I think you might fear the Dark Master," I said. A shiver went down my spine. 'And, to make things worse…"
"What?" They both echoed.
I gulped. "I think I might fear myself."
