"Wait, Naruto, maybe this isn't such a good idea…"
After hours of persuasion, Naruto had finally convinced you to come watch a movie at his apartment. What he failed to inform you of, however, was that it was a horror movie. And you really couldn't handle those.
"Aw, come on, (Y/N), it's a really good movie!"
You bit your lip and tried to plan your escape as he fumbled with the DVD case. There's always the window…but your fear of heights and the fact that he lived on the fifth floor nipped that one in the bud. The door, then?
He had finally managed to pop the DVD case open, and was putting the disc into the player. Now was your chance. You swiftly picked up your bag and ran to the door before running into something. Something hard.
You glanced up and saw that you had run into Naruto's chest. You sidestepped, but he was always one movement ahead of you. You clenched your jaw in frustration, and he smirked down at you. "Wait, so let me get this straight. The great '(Y/N)' is afraid of a scary movie?"
Your pride got the best of you, and you played right into his hand. "I am not afraid of some stupid movie."
You froze as he leaned in close, his lips almost touching your ear. "Then prove it."
Your cheeks burned bright red, and you turned around quickly so he couldn't see. Taking a deep breath, you marched back over to the couch. I'm not afraid of some stupid movie…I'm not afraid…I'm not afraid…
The phrase rang through your head like a mantra as Naruto finished setting up the movie. He began turning off all the apartment lights, and you internally freaked out. I'm not afraid…I'm not afraid…
"Um…can't we keep just one light on?"
He laughed. "Why? You afraid?" He flicked off the last light. I'm not afraid…
"N-no…"
"Good." His voice came from next to you, and you jumped. Naruto laughed, finding it hilarious that you could be so cocky under normal situations, but so terrified of a scary movie.
You swallowed as the movie started up. The family had just moved into a house. It was obviously haunted, but the stereotypical white family seemed excited nonetheless. You knew exactly how this was going to go, and grabbed a pillow for safety.
"Nope." The pillow was plucked from your hands, and thrown across the room.
"H-Hey! I was using that!"
"And now you're not."
Every time you would grab a pillow or blanket, Naruto would somehow take it from you and throw it out of reach. Eventually, it was just you and the orange-haired boy on the couch—with nothing around you to use for safety—and the family had just encountered the evil spirit living in the basement.
Okay, I'm afraid. I'm VERY afraid.
You curled up into a ball, and stuck your head between your knees. Listening to a horror movie was horrible, but it was better than seeing it. You knew you were already going to have nightmares for a week, and the inhuman noises coming from the television were making you shake pretty badly.
"Oh, for the love of…" Naruto picked you up and put you in his lap, wrapping his arms around you. Your face burned bright red, and you tried to loosen yourself from his grip. You were almost free when a shriek ripped through the room, making you instinctively clamp your arms around his muscular torso.
A hand began running through your hair, and you heard a chuckle vibrate through his chest. "Took you long enough."
You were still shaking—and your face was still red—but the warmth emanating from his body combined with the feeling of his hand through your hair made your heartbeat calm down. You felt safe in his arms, and after a few minutes the shaking subsided. Before you knew it, you had fallen asleep.
Unbeknownst to you, a boy with orange hair kissed the top of your head and smiled. "See, (Y/N)? I can protect you much better than those pillows could have."
He made a mental note to thank Sakura for telling him that you were so afraid of horror movies.
