watched the blonde examine the selection of fedoras in the shop. There was going to be a
Christmas party at the station in a few days and his significant other had insisted on
buying a new hat to match one of his suits. Of course, Cole had mentioned that he didn't
need to come with him, but he didn't exactly have anything else to do tonight.
Cole grinned at Rusty's response, "Relax, Rusty, we're almost finished here," he
murmured as he tried to reach a decision of whether to purchase the black fedora with the
red band or the one with the white stripes. "I hope so, I think you've gone through the
whole place," Rusty grumbled to himself as he took a drag from his cigar.
He didn't mind the trip, but he was never the patient type.
Cole settled for the hat with the red trim, feeling that it fit with the season's color scheme.
After giving the fedora to one of the employees to be wrapped in a box, he walked over
to the elder man with a cheeky grin, "Okay, it's done, we can go." Rusty stood up from
the wall with a sigh of relief, "Finally," he grumbled, tapping a bit of ash off the cigar
between his fingers.
Cole glanced around briefly, stepping closer to his lover before touching his palm to his
cheek and giving him a quick peck on the lips, chuckling as he pulled away at the sight of
the stunned look on Rusty's face.
"What was that for?" Rusty blinked. "Mistletoe." Cole pointed his finger upwards;
pointing out the intricately wrapped bouquet of green branches and snowy white berries
that hung from the ceiling.
"I'm surprised you didn't notice it." Cole raised a brow before turning and walking
towards the front desk to pay for the hat. "I was preoccupied by something else," Rusty
mused as he gave Cole's ass a light smack. The blonde bit back a yelp and threw his
fellow detective an accusing look over his shoulder, snorting when Rusty gave a shrug to
match his coy grin. They were certainly feeling bolder today…
Once they had arrived at their apartment, Cole placed the hatbox down on the table by the
door to envelop Rusty in his arms, sealing their lips together in a searing kiss.
Rusty made a noise of surprise as his lover kissed him, taking Cole's face into his hands.
Cole nibbled on Rusty's lower lip, caressing the front of his pants sensually, drawing a
groan from the other man. "I guess Christmas came early this year," Rusty grinned as he
broke the kiss, "and I didn't even have to wear a Santa suit," he mused.
"I'm not entirely against the idea." Cole winked as he took Rusty's hand and led him
towards the bedroom. Rusty snorted and rolled his eyes at his mischievous lover as he led
him down the hallway. When they first met, the blonde had been much more private and
reserved; after spending some time together on the clock to get to know each other, as
well as feeding themselves a few drinks in the off hours, everything changed between
them. One thing led to another and now they were living together; just a few days short of
their third anniversary – Christmas, the brightest yet loneliest time of the year.
Thankfully, Cole always knew how to make the holiday more bearable.

I wrote this back on January 15th of this year as a special Christmas fic request.
Someone really likes the RustyxCole pairing and so they asked me to write a fluffy story
featuring them at a hat shop during the Christmas season.
I do remember seeing a couple of RustyxCole prompts on the LANoirekinkmeme but I'm
not sure if I will attempt to write those or not. We'll see…
