The first thing Ed does when he gets back is transmute. Nothing into something, something into nothing, lonely into loving and cages into free. Al smiles softly, happily (aliverealright) and explains to a baffled passerby that it was part of his soul, and it had been missing for so long . . . They visit his grave, and Ed grins and apologizes. For missing his own funeral. Roy scowls and Al hears the silent, "It wasn't fun for the rest of us." He's gotten good at hearing the silent things. Winry cries and hugs him, threatens him with a wrench because how could he be so stupid and selfless?! Al smiles softly when he finds Ed and Roy kissing passionately in Ed's new lab, closes the door quietly and thinks that nothing could ever be easy when it came to Ed. Is happy for his brother anyway. Wonders if he's the only one who saw it coming and thinks he probably wasn't.
