The spirit's icy fingers tightened around his throat, his vision tunneled down to a pin prick. His bruised body screamed for mercy. There was none.

He had Dean instead.

"Hey you ugly bitch! Look here!" Dean stood in the doorway, the flimsy shawl already burning.

Released from the spirit's iron grasp, Sam's feet hit the floor. His knees buckled as he gasped for air. Dean caught him before he hit the floor, cradled him close.

"Sorry Sammy," gentle fingers checking for serious damage, misery palpable in green eyes, "I'm sorry I took so long."

Crooked smile, wheezy, "Saved me, s'ok."
